Annual SGIA Expo Preview

The Specialty Graphic Imaging Association’s (SGIA’s) annual expo takes place October 23 to 25, 2013 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, FL. Attendees should plan on leaving plenty of time to peruse the show floor and check out the seminars led by notable members of the industry. In addition, venture over to the IFAI Specialty Fabrics Expo, which is co-located with SGIA this year.

 

Application-centric zones are designed as free educational programming for all visitors and are scattered throughout the main expo hall. Color Management & Workflow, Digital Apparel Production, Digital Textile Printing, PDAA Graphics Application, Screen Printed Apparel Training, and Strategic Sustainable Solutions zones personify current trends and showcase various presentations by industry professionals daily.

 

Here, we include vendors’ plans for SGIA. This is a continuation from our September issue’s preview, with information on even more companies.

 

Achilles USA Inc., booth 1739, celebrates its 40th anniversary and continues to innovate in static cling graphics with the launch of Bio-Cling. Meeting ASTM D-6866 with 28 to 30 percent bio-based product content, this is a “greener” alternative to regular cling vinyl. Together with a new release liner, textured cling vinyl and many other substrates for printing and overlaminating in both vinyl and olefin films, Achilles USA is proud to be at the forefront of the industry.

 

American Ink Jet Corporation, booth 1233, invites attendees to join the company as it celebrates 30 years of inkjet excellence. Since 1983, it’s supported its customers and the wide format market with premium quality inkjet solutions. American Ink Jet’s lines of bulk inks and remanufactured cartridges are always expanding. This year new products include water-based, eco-solvent, and UV-curable inkjet inks.

 

ATP Adhesive Systems, booth 1338, introduces OPEN AIR, a micro-perforated, repositionable vinyl for bubble-free application. Easy and economical, OPEN AIR is available in matte, gloss, or clear for window and wall graphics. ATP Adhesive Systems offers mounting films, laminates, and self-adhesive vinyl.

 

Aurora Specialty Textiles Group, Inc., booth 822, features additions to the Northern Lights Printable Textiles line including ColorPRO Technology. Exclusively from Aurora, fabrics optimized for latex printing with ColorPRO Technology deliver superior image quality, reliability, and durability. It showcases its repositionable adhesive-backed Sticky Stuff 4oz and Sticky Stuff 8oz canvas materials plus Dye Sub Tent, an all-weather, fire retardant material for pop-up tents.

 

Avery Dennison, booth 863, adds Conform Blue Chrome, Conform Gold Chrome, and Conform Black Chrome to its Conform Chrome Accent Film offering. The new films join Conform Chrome Silver and feature a mirror-like finish that creates a premium look for vehicle wrap accents such as side-view mirrors, striping, and door handles.

 

Bordeaux Digital, booth 1814, displays its complete offering of sustainable products and solutions for wide format, textile, and packaging. Visitors witness Bordeaux’s textile transfer dye and direct-to-textile sublimation inks and learn the advantages of its unique latex-based ink comparable to solvent inks, Mix & Match, eco, UV, and coatings solutions for wide format graphic arts.

 

Brandstand America, booth 2664, provides clients with budget-conscience display options, superior customer service, and award-winning product designs. It strives to offer the best experience possible from start to finish. At Brandstand, employees work to help clients make their brand a universally recognized product.

 

Bruin Plastics Company, booth 4204, presents its line of banner, sign, and digital imaging reinforced vinyl and mesh substrates. These fabrics feature a high tear/tensile strength, superior lay flat qualities, smooth printing surface, and flame retardancy. Founded in 1964, Bruin Plastics is an original innovator in developing reinforced substrates for printing. Customers choose from a range of in-stock constructions or custom made material.

 

Caldera, booth 2636, debuts WebShop, a full-featured solution that allows print service providers the freedom to tailor their online store to individual needs. The Software as a Service product can be integrated with Caldera’s Flow+ and RIP solutions to provide a complete sales-to-production system. Highlights include the ability to create multiple shops with different products and prices for specific customers or target markets and various product categorization features.

 

CET Color, booth 1440, demonstrates value-added combinations of printers, software, and consumables that make graphic communication solutions for wide format printing more attractive, affordable, and ultimately more profitable. CET Color also introduces its new K-Series, which utilizes Kyocera printhead technology to provide the ultimate in speed and imaging quality.

 

Clear Focus Imaging, Inc., booth 2834, exhibits several new products for point of purchase and retail window graphics including UV-See, an unperforated 2-mil gloss clear polyester film compatible with UV digital and screen inks. Popular EconoVue 60/40 and 70/30 window perforated films are now available for UV-curable, latex, solvent/eco-solvent, and other print technologies.

 

ClingZ, booth 1945, highlights its ClingZ electrically charged film that adheres to any dry indoor surface. Offered in white or clear, ClingZ adheres to drywall, glass, wood, metal, or brick without adhesive. It’s environmentally friendly, recyclable, and non-toxic. Use for point of purchase displays, retail promotions, and trade show signage. ClingZ is printable on UV-curable equipment.

 

Colex Imaging, Inc., booth 2444, promotes its Sharpcut Flatbed Cutter. The device offers an interchangeable tool head, energy efficient six-zone vacuum system, and vision registration software and camera. A new oscillating knife cuts 50 percent faster with optional tools available including a pen plotter, glass cutter, and multi-angle v-cut tool; creasing wheel; kiss-cutting knife; Coroplast knife; and universal single-edge knife.

 

Contra Vision, booth 1278, offers a range of materials and technologies enabling printers to profit from growth in see-thru graphics, and end users to explore new application possibilities and opportunities. An originator of see-thru graphics, Contra Vision displays a range of perforated window films, in addition to print-only technologies enabling the production of see-thru graphics using imperforate materials.

 

Cooley Group, booth 4704, showcases Enviroflex PE with ColorPRO Technology for latex in 2.64 and 3.2 meters, which results from a close collaboration with Hewlett-Packard (HP). Cooley’s recyclable banner solutions—utilizing ColorPRO Technology for use with HP Latex and UV inks—are optimized to provide enhanced print performance equal to vinyl products but with lower environmental impact than traditional PVC materials.

 

Cyrious Software, booth 1640, launches its cloud system, cyriousonline. This initial phase of cyriousonline includes Storefront, a Web system that lets companies create customized storefronts for each customer. Customers build their own graphics or modify templates via the online designer and place orders directly.

 

D&K Group, booth 476, displays its line of wide format laminators including the Expression 42+. D&K also showcases its line of mounting adhesives and laminating films, including the popular Diamond Hard Velvet Matte Finish and new Brilliance pressure-sensitive adhesive overlaminates.

 

DAF Products, booth 3804, is a manufacturer and converter of wide format printing materials. The product offering includes Escape and Imprint PSA vinyls with permanent and removable adhesives, Illusion PSA perforated window film, polyester backlit and rollup films, polypropylene display and two-sided printable blockout films, and PSA laminates. DAF is known for its Gecko Grip Inside Mount perforated window film, print directly on suction cup technology.

 

DaVinci Technologies, booth 2138, is a one-stop shop, supplying everything from PSA vinyl and laminates, paper, and window perforation, to tools, equipment, and cleaning supplies. DaVinci continues to provide exceptional customer service and well-known brands. Warehouses in CA, CT, and FL stock a selection of products that allow DaVinci to serve customers nationwide.

 

DigiFab Systems, booth 3410, features the latest in digital textile printing equipment. Stop by and see demonstrations of direct-to-fabric and sublimation printing. DigiFab displays its StampaJet inkjet fabric printer, DigiHeat rotary heat presses, Evolution RIP software, and DigiFab’s exclusive line of papers and fabrics, as well as DigiFab’s inkjet inks.

 

DreamScape, booth 3240, highlights a line of wallcovering media and specialty medias. DreamScape is a certified commercial grade wallcovering available in 14 textures optically tuned for digital printing. Also displayed is WallWrap adhesive-backed textured and Terralon, PVC-free wallcovering. New at the show is Black Flash chrome finish wallcovering and two new textures, Beads and Silk.

 

Durst Image Technology US, booth 2001, is a leader in digital UV inkjet printing solutions, built for performance, efficiency, and reliability. Durst features today’s most innovative printing platforms with the Rho 1012 and its unrivaled print quality, the five-meter Rho 512R with Variodrop technology, and the Rhotex 322 with a print drop size of seven to 21 picoliters.

 

E. L. Hatton Sales Co., booth 3334, announces Banner Ups Crystal Clear BravoTabs, a streamlined version of its PowerTabs banner grommet tabs. BravoTabs employ the same super-strong polymer and adhesive as PowerTabs, but are square in shape, with no neck loop for an improved appearance, lower cost, and easier application. BravoTabs are stronger than grommets alone. The square shape works great at banner corners and edges for a one-size-fits-all solution.

 

EFI, booth 2601, features products from its industry-leading UV inkjet portfolio, including the 3.2-meter EFI VUTEk HS100 Pro UV inkjet press, VUTEk GS3250LX LED UV hybrid roll/flatbed printer, R3225 roll-fed printer, and the 65-inch EFI H652 hybrid printer. The booth also features EFI’s new SmartSign Analytics sign viewership data product.

 

EnCore Products, booth 646, manufactures foamboard products. Encore Foam Board includes White, Extreme White, Black-on-Black, Colors, Self-Adhesive Boards, Acid-Free Boards, SingleStep Heat-Activated, Natural Kraft, PilloCore, MightyCore Rigid, MightyBull, and new Fine Art Boards. At SGIA, it features application demonstrations with the new Fine Art Boards—Canvas, Embossed Canvas, Cork, Chalkboard, and Extreme White for Photography.

 

Esko, booth 1201, displays its range of Kongsberg finishing tables, from the Kongsberg i-XE10 for small format, lightweight and flexible materials; to a powerful, versatile Kongsberg XN24; to the ultra-fast Kongsberg XP. Demonstrations are offered on Esko i-cut Suite, a collection of pre-production software for users of large format digital printers and/or digital finishing systems.

 

Expand Systems, LLC, booth 1645, along with MS Italy revolutionize the digital textile business in the U.S. with custom digital printing solutions. Expand Systems and MS showcases the ES Diva, the new MS JP4 sublimation printer, and MS JP7 direct printer. The company provides complete printing solutions specifically tailored to meet every need.

 

Expolinc, booth 1035, exhibits the Expolinc Panel Base. It is an ideal, timeless solution for rigid graphic panels made of anodized aluminum and available in three different widths. Panel Base holds Magnet Frame, which is a double-sided frame that displays flexible, easily transported graphics with magnets.

 

Fisher Textiles, booth 2422, is a leading supplier of fabrics for dye-sublimation, UV, and direct digital printing. Its fabrics for backlit, flag, point of purchase, trade show graphics, banner stand, awning, and apparel applications are on display. Fisher Textiles unveils a new backlit area within its booth, featuring backlit displays made with its newest backlit fabrics printed with direct disperse, UV-curable, and latex technologies.

 

Fujifilm North America Corporation, booth 2621, demonstrates the Acuity Select HS, a high-speed UV inkjet printer; the Acuity LED; the Inca Onset S40i six-color plus white printer; and the Uvistar Pro 8W 3.5-meter printer.

 

G-Floor Graphic by Better Life Technology, booth 1247, is a unique large format sheet vinyl flooring material. This product allows for custom designs and branding options for areas from large retail to smaller kiosk applications. With no actual minimum size requirements to meet, using floor space for advertising and product branding is a snap. The large format vinyl sheeting is offered up to ten feet in width.

 

Gans Ink & Supply Co., booth 3414, is your one stop shop to all things sublimation. It carries paper, supplies, hardware, software, and bulk cartridge systems. By incorporating expertise in ink manufacturing technology, it provides a formula for digital inkjet printing success. Gans’ Pyrojet series offers exceptional strength, amazing optical density, and an unsurpassed color gamut for any sublimation medium.

 

Global Imaging, booth 816, features a full grand format workflow, from prepress to finishing. Products showcased include the PrinterEvolution Evo33 DS ten-foot wide water-based dye-sublimation (dye-sub) printer, the PrinterEvolution Evo33 eSUV ten-foot wide solvent/UV printer, the PrinterEvolution Neo64 DS water-based dye-sub printer with on-board fixation unit, and Novus Synergia H/UV hybrid UV printer.

 

Graphic Finishing Partners (Gfp), booth 644, launches a dual heat laminator. Finishing professionals looking for versatility, quality, and economy can find it in the Gfp 855DH. Thermal encapsulate up to 55 inches with low melt films, laminate PSA cold films, or mount boards up to 4x8 feet. The 855DH accepts film rolls to ten inches OD on swing-out supply shafts.

 

Graphics One (GO), booth 2482, unveils its new hybrid ink with UV LampBar system for upgrading existing eco-based roll-to-roll printers. GO’s e-UV Ink and e-UV LampBar System is a unique curing system, which uses a new hybrid UV ink that offers superior color, high gloss, and adhesion up to 100 times better than eco-solvent ink with outstanding scratch resistance.

 

Heytex Bramsche GmbH, booth 3423, and its Heytex-Group is one of the leading manufacturers of high-quality coated and laminated technical textiles for numerous technologically demanding applications. Heytex develops, manufactures, and sells internationally a range of innovative coated and laminated textiles for L-XXL digital print with the trade name HEYTex and Heyblue. Heytex displays a 5x5-meter light box at the show.

 

Hilord Chemical, booth 2811, introduces EcoSub ink printing at top speeds with no paper cockling. It is compatible with all eco printers. Hilord is now an authorized Mutoh and Ergosoft dealer. See the Mutoh Value Jet 1638 printer with EcoSub at the booth. Hilord also exhibits the EFI VUTEk TX3250r fabric printer with the ability to print direct to textile and transfer paper.

 

Hybrid Software, showcases its Order Lifecycle Management (OLM) software. Providing connectivity between Web-to-print, management information systems, and production systems, OLM software solutions help streamline production and improve production efficiencies. Also on display is a preview of a new, extended product line including workflow and native PDF editing.

 

KAPCO Graphic Products, booth 2354, provides laminates and digital media for water-based inkjet printers. Learn more about products and extensive lines of laminates; media for solvent/UV, latex, and water-based inkjet printers; sign vinyl; and supplies at the show.

 

KATZ Americas, booth 1267, presents KATZ Display Board, an eco-solution. It is a premium eco-friendly alternative to foam and plastic-based rigid substrates. Available in a variety of thicknesses and sizes, KATZ Display Board is designed to support any print and cut machinery from digital flatbed to litho, screen, and sheet fed. Additionally, KATZ Display Board can reduce disposal costs, as it is 100 percent recyclable.

 

Kay Premium Marking Films, booth 3443, celebrates nearly two decades as a manufacturer of self-adhesive vinyl film and other coated plastic films throughout Europe and Asia. The company is committed to achieving customer satisfaction through its continuous improvement of products and service.

 

Kernow Coatings, booth 1237, focuses on its HydroSol Polyester Films. The new 205STLR – 8-mil Satin Textured LightBlock contains 30 percent post-consumer recycled bottles in the polyester base at the same cost as other polyester films. HydroSol offers a full line of non-curling, temperature stable polyester films for roll-ups, pop-ups, backlit and window displays, menu boards, and other signage applications.

 

Korographics, booth 1949, displays its line of premium digital wallcovering print media. There are 11 unique textures offered, which provide a range of image dynamics. Korographics media meets or exceeds Type II commercial vinyl specifications. The material is class A fire-rated for the U.S. and Canada, and conforms to the European CE standard.

 

Lamitech, booth 1712, manufactures paperboard for mounting, offset, screenprinting, display, setup boxes, packaging, and digital. It is a fully integrated manufacturing company based in NJ with locations in CA and MA, where it conducts its own laminating and converting of rigid paperboard products.

 

MACtac Distributor Products, booth 2018, debuts wallCHALKER CB1088R chalkboard vinyl, designed to transform any wall or table surface into a chalkboard. wallCHALKER features a moderately aggressive removable pressure-sensitive adhesive for quick, easy installation and easy removability from most surfaces for up to two years.

 

Magnum Magnetics, booth 1043, is a U.S. manufacturer of flexible magnetic sheeting, rolls, strip, and custom profiles. Products include printable magnetic sheeting for multiple printing presses including offset, flexographic, inkjet, and digital.

 

Master Magnetics, booth 1022, promotes wide format printing directly to flexible magnetic material in up to 40-inch widths, with custom cutting and slitting. PrintMagnetVinyl allows for printing using solvent, eco-solvent, UV, and latex. For aqueous inks, PrintMagnet is available with a paper topcoat.

 

McGrann Digital Imaging and Natura Media, booth 1432, highlight six new media products. Test Easy Tex removable/repositionable wall fabric, PET backlit with widths up to 87 inches, Satin Canvas for Latex, Optically Clear PET Silicone Treated Window Cling, scratch resistant trade show/roll up DURATIN product, and PVC Free Wallpaper for Latex printers with water-activated adhesive.

 

MCT, Inc., booth 3432, demonstrates two of its new, made in the U.S., digital cutting systems. Its popular, best-in-class Versa-Tech 1.6-meter system with 5x10-foot cutting area is shown with a liquid cooled router and a full set of tangential knife cutting tools. Showing for the first time is the new Versa-Tech 3.2-meter convertible system with a 10x10-foot cutting area and flexible tool configuration options including laser.

 

MTL Print Ltd., booth 612, presents its flagship NURStar 304D 4x8-foot wide format digital flatbed and the new NURStar 305D 5x10-foot digital flatbed, both printing at speeds up to 2,700 square feet per hour. NURStar flatbeds feature unique interchangeable tables, allowing non-stop production by setting up the next job while the current job is printed. They utilize grayscale technology to offer ink consumption as low as five cents per square foot, contributing further to unmatched cost effectiveness.

 

MultiCam, Inc., booth 607, exhibits its versatile lineup of digital finishing systems including the Digital Express and Graph-X-Cutter. Designed to bridge the gap between routers and knife cutters, these highly versatile machines eliminate the bottlenecks that occur in the finishing stages of the production process. Additionally, Neschen features SolvoPrint Easy Dot, a new print media with a unique dot patterned adhesive, for easy installation of point of purchase and retail signage, window graphics, and glass office partitions.

 

OmniPrint International, booth 1478, offers the latest direct-to-garment printers, direct-to-product printers, direct-to-garment inks, and direct-to-garment RIP software to enhance business. Its direct-to-garment printers print full-color images directly on dark or light garments.

 

ONYX Graphics, Inc., booth 833, releases new ONYX 11 software, which leverages the success of ONYX X10 and ONYX Thrive, and includes 21 innovative features and improvements focused on simplifying print production; providing predictable, high-quality color output; and enabling software connectivity within a print production environment. ONYX 11 software contains new tools to reduce waste by making color management easier and printing more predictable.

 

Orbus Exhibit & Display Group, booth 2040, is the trade’s one-stop shop for everything displays—from portable signs and display products to custom solutions. Products on display include the Zoom Tent, the Giant ten-foot tall Mosquito, and the Hopup tension fabric display now with a lighter frame and smaller footprint.

 

Pacific Coast Fabrics, booth 1624, displays its full selection of digital print polyester and cotton textiles. It exhibits printed samples of all of its textiles including premier light box fabric and Deko-Green 100 percent recycled fabric. The company introduces to the graphic arts community a variety of new fabrics, including three apparel fabrics; one trade show fabric; one promotional specialty fabric; and one new home furnishing fabric.

 

Pad Print Machinery of Vermont, booth 435, demonstrates its single- and multi-color pad printers and features its latest industrial inkjet products. The single-pass XD070, designed by the company’s engineering team, is a multi-color inkjet printer ideal for variable image data on flat and semi-flat surfaces. The flatbed fJET-24 UV-LED printer features a large 20x24-inch print area, ideal for personalized souvenirs, customized gifts, and promotional items. Custom automation and inline pretreatment options are available on most products.

 

Paradigm Imaging Group, booth 201 and 1601, is a leading distributor of wide format solutions, including cutting plotters from Graphtec, eco-solvent printers from Mutoh and SID Signs, large format scanners from Colortrac, and large format flatbed scanners from Kurabo. Roland DGA Corporation, booth 828, unveils the VersaUV LEF-20, which prints CMYK, white, and clear inks directly on 3D objects up to 20 inches wide. Roland also features SOLJET Pro 4 and VersaCAMM printers and printer/cutters, as well as engravers, cutters, and solutions for personalization and custom apparel. Rolinx Performance Products, booth 446, a master distributor for Kala Finishing Systems in the U.S., introduces the Mistral 2100 laminator. The Mistral 2100 is an 83-inch top heat assist laminator with roll-to-roll capabilities included at no additional cost. Visit for a demonstration of an unsupervised roll-to-roll single-sided lamination process.

 

Rollem, booth 807, presents its newest 2D Automatic Finisher for high-quality slitting, scoring, and perforating of multiple-up products. Ideal for postcards, greeting cards, and full-color products, the system eliminates guillotine cutting and additional manpower. Press sheet to finished product occurs in one step. Saw Trax, booth 410, understands that sign shops cut a variety of materials, so it created the Sign Maker’s Combo Panel Saw/Mat cutter package to cut all material quickly, safely, and accurately while saving time and money.
