Every four years, the Graphic Arts Show Company (GASC) hosts Print, an internationally recognized exhibition in the Americas for digital, offset, flexographic, and hybrid technologies, products, and services for the commercial, transactional, converting, package printing, publishing, mailing, in plant, photo imaging, and marketing industries. This year’s event, themed “Innovate, Integrate, Communicate,” takes place from September 8 to 12, 2013 at McCormick Place, Chicago, IL.


Of note is the new BIG – The Wide Format Pavilion, sponsored by the International Sign Association (ISA). This area of the show floor is home to exhibitors specializing in hardware, media, software, and solutions in wide format. Creative Banner Assemblies, Digital Graphic Systems, Flexmag Industries, and Grimco are a few of the familiar names found in this part of the exhibit hall.


Leading by example, ISA hosts one of the larger booths in the pavilion, showcasing a wide format innovation and application theater for attendees. Presentations include discussions on the hottest media trends, tips, and tricks on how to sell the newest applications.


In advance of the show, the following products were recognized as MUST SEE ’EMS at Print 13 in the Pressroom: Wide Format category. Canon Solutions America won for its Océ Arizona 660 XT and Océ ColorWave 900, EFI for its VUTEk GS-TF System and VUTEk HS100 Pro, and Xanté Corporation for the new Excelagraphix 4200 P Series.


On The Floor

More than 500 exhibitors are expected to demonstrate the latest equipment, software, and products. Many of these will be new product introductions seen by the public for the first time. Here we offer highlights in the wide format field.


Advantage Sign Supply, booth 4651, showcases the CET Color 500Q UV printer, HP 260 (L26500) latex printer, and Epson S70360 solvent printer. Come meet some of the company’s representatives and find the solutions needed to help business grow. INFO# 227


Canon Solutions America, booth 502, exhibits the highly productive Océ ColorWave 900 large format inkjet printer printing at 12 inches per second and the new, highly versatile Océ Arizona 660 XT flatbed UV inkjet. Also shown is ONYX Thrive workflow software and the Zünd G3 L-2500 digital cutter. INFO# 228


Collins Ink Corp., booth 3709, displays various print samples of its UV-curable wide format inks. Innovative inks such as the company’s Lok inks adhere to glass and Stretch inks are flexible enough for thermoforming. INFO# 229


EFI, booth 2602, features high-end LED UV and UV-curable inkjet printers as well as the Jetrion 4900ML digital label press. The booth also includes numerous workflow advancements including new products from the EFI Fiery line of digital printing technologies such as the EFI Fiery FS100 Pro. INFO# 230


Enfocus, booth 4743, shows its new Connect 11 product family. Enfocus Connect 11 combines PDF creation and quality control with hassle-free file delivery for the graphic arts professional. The family comprises of two editions, Connect YOU for designers and Connect ALL for service providers or creative organizations that work with outside clients. INFO# 231


Epson, booth 1231, demonstrates how its latest printing innovations directly impact real-world printing needs and applications across a range of markets. Product showcases and demonstrations span multiple markets, including the SureColor S-Series 64-inch solvent printers for signage, vehicle graphics, fine art, and packaging; the SureColor T-Series plotters for architectural, engineering, GIS, and corporate graphics; and the SureColor F-Series dye-sublimation transfer printers. Esko, booth 4231, promotes the Esko Kongsberg i-XP24 digital finishing table, which handles corrugated board and other rigid or roll materials used in point of purchase products and various product displays. It offers exceptional productivity and throughput. i-cut Vision Pro registers the actual dimensions and positions on the printed result to assure finishing is adapted to the graphic’s shape. Fujifilm North America, booth 1218, demonstrates the Inca Onset Q406i, which makes its U.S. premiere at the show. It addresses the growing market for an ultra-high-quality flatbed printer, capable of delivering high production speeds. The Fujifilm J Press 540 W, also making its U.S. premiere, is an inkjet web press targeted at shorter run print applications traditionally run on web offset presses, such as leaflets and magazines. GBC, booth 225, showcases the new Spire line of wide format thermal and cold laminators. Available in both thermal and cold versions in widths from 44 to 64 inches, Spire laminators promise a high productivity solution for operators at any skill level. INFO# 235


GMG Americas, booth 4837, spotlights the GMG ProductionSuite workflow. It includes an editor to preflight files and make corrections; RIP to control multiple printers; a cutting option; true shape nesting; variable data printing; and GMG color technology. INFO# 236


Hewlett-Packard (HP), booth 1241, showcases the HP Latex 3000 Printer, making its U.S. debut. It prints on heat-sensitive substrates with the HP Latex Optimizer, ensuring consistent image quality at high speeds. Also on display is the HP Indigo 10000 Digital Press, now available and installed at customer sites worldwide. INFO# 237


INX, booth 217, displays the NW140 UV digital narrow web press with inline laser cutting. The device offers UV LED cure single pass output up to 80 feet per minute. It combines printing and conversion using the Spartanics X140 laser die-cutting station to provide brilliant color and easy separation of printed labels. INFO# 238


Magnum Magnetics, booth 1173, showcases its Magnum brand printable magnetic media. It’s easy to print magnets with Magnum Magnetics’ flexible magnetic media. Highlights include DigiMag PLUS, DigiMag Duplex, DigiMag XTRA, and MuscleMag. INFO# 239


Master Magnetics, booth 972, features wide format printing directly onto flexible magnetic material in up to 40-inch widths, with custom cutting and slitting also available. PrintMagnetVinyl allows for high-resolution printing using solvent, eco-solvent, UV, and latex ink systems. For aqueous inks, PrintMagnet is available with a paper topcoat. INFO# 240


Mimaki USA, Inc., booth 2355, demonstrates its latest UV LED flatbed printer, the JFX500-2131, capable of printing 645 square feet per hour on virtually any substrate. Also shown, the CJV30 Series, a roll-to-roll print/cut solution available in 24-, 40-, and 64-inch printing widths; and the CF2 flatbed cutting plotter. INFO# 241


Mutoh America, Inc., booth 4250, partners with Fellers and 3M to provide printing demonstrations on Mutoh’s new ValueJet 1617H – 64-inch hybrid, ValueJet 1624 – 64-inch, and ValueJet 1324 – 54-inch printers. Mutoh also showcases its Smart Printing technologies, vehicle wrap tips and tricks, and color management systems. INFO# 242


Roland DGA Corporation, booth 4274, features Roland’s new SOLJET Pro 4 XF-640. The printer delivers vibrant, detailed images at speeds up to 1,098 square feet per hour. Also displayed is the VersaCAMM VS-540 printer/cutter with white and metallic ink options as well as Roland’s UV printers and printer/cutters, including the VersaUV LEJ-640, LEC-330, and LEF-12. Van Son Holland, booth 2655, exhibits its newest LED, UV-curable, and eco-solvent digital printing ink product lines. Specifically engineered for today’s most popular grand and wide format inkjet printers, Van Son’s premium digital inks provide printers with an alternative to OEM on an extensive range of digital printers. Xanté, booth 5007, features three new products, the new Excelagraphix 4200 high-speed, wide format inkjet printer; the Impressia Multi-Media Press; and iQueue 8 Ultimate. INFO# 246


Xerox Corporation, booth 1202, showcases its portfolio of offerings to produce jobs faster, reduce costs, and expand capabilities. Workflow advancements and new capabilities are the focal point of the booth. Additionally, an array of printing technology is displayed, including the Xerox Wide Format IJP 2000, printer. INFO# 247


Zünd, booth 2467, presents its latest innovations in digital flatbed cutting and workflow technology, including the newest version of Zünd Cut Center 2.0 (ZCC). The ZCC user interface and production suite is further expanded with Zünd Design Center, an Adobe Illustrator plug-in that offers a growing library of parametric designs, 3D visualization, and 3D PDF export. The company also features a G3 system with tandem vacuum. INFO# 248
