ISA International Sign Expo 2013

The International Sign Expo 2013, held by the International Sign Association (ISA), takes place April 4 to 6 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas, NV. With the tagline of this year’s show “Find it. See it. Hear it. Discover it.,” the expo allows attendees to witness a range of products and solutions in action.


Over 550 exhibitors offer the necessary tools for print providers to succeed in the graphic arts and grow their business. A special focus is placed on “green” products, which ISA lists on the event’s Web site. Below is a selection of exhibiting vendors. Check Digital Output’s April issue for more profiles. Agfa Graphics, booth 4253, puts wide format printing’s capabilities front and center with the Six Strings Classic Blues Lounge. The lounge, which replicates a New Orleans jazz nightclub, showcases various applications and the limitless possibilities created with the company’s inkjet media portfolio and equipment. The result is an inkjet-created franchise business that demonstrates the best of Agfa and Pitman. Almost every surface, image, and promotional item is created with inkjet. 


Arlon Graphics, booth 3112, features several New Automotive Restyling vehicle wrap films, including Series 2300X in Carbon Fiber and brushed metal as well as Series 4600LX in matte and gloss finishes. Stop by and see a vehicle wrap demonstration on both its print and restyling material or get a preview of Arlon’s new Web site and videos. 


Canon Solutions America (CSA), booth 3353, promotes the Océ Arizona 480 GT UV flatbed printer featuring eight independent ink channels for new applications capability and additional features designed to improve productivity and quality. Also on display is the affordable Océ Arizona 318 GL UV flatbed printer, the Océ ColorWave 650 large format printer, Canon imagePROGRAF printers, and an Océ ProCut finishing system. 


CET Color, booth 5764, brings an aggressive UV flatbed and hybrid product portfolio to the show. It demonstrates value-added combinations of hardware, software, and consumables that make graphic communication solutions for the wide format printing market more attractive, affordable, and profitable. Shown in the booth is the X-Press 1000HL, a 3.2-meter hybrid; the X-Press 500QE-4X, a Q-Series 4x8-foot flatbed; and the X-Press 1000Q-20Z, a 5x10-foot Q-Series flatbed featuring 20 Ricoh printheads. 


Clear Focus Imaging, Inc., booth 3951, launches several films designed for short-term point of purchase and retail window graphics. PromoVue features a 60/40 perforation pattern and features the company’s patented Do-ALLiner liner, compatible with most wide format print technologies. Value-priced EconoVue is now available in 70/30 as well as 60/40. Non-adhesive products include DuoVue, a perforated white banner film for double-sided printing and MeshVue, a black-backed mesh. PromoLam, a 1.3-mil cast, conformable PVC overlaminate, rounds out the new offerings. 


Colex, booth 5143, an industry leader in wide format finishing solutions features the Sharpcut flatbed cutter system. The Sharpcut is Colex’s most productive and valued solution for finishing complex digital display graphics. In addition, Colex features the Fotoba X/Y Automatic Cutter line. Also on display, the new XLD-170WP device is ideal for cutting tiles of wall paper with extremely high accuracy to enable side-by-side wall application. 


Durst Image Technology US LLC, booth 1515, is a world-class manufacturer of digital UV inkjet printing solutions built for performance, reliability, and efficiency. Durst features its most innovative digital printing platforms, the Rho P10 Series. The versatile Rho P10 Series digital printers produce accurate colors and sharp images on a variety of hand-held and eye-level materials—backlit signage and point of purchase displays to name a few—cost effectively and at production speeds. 


E. L. Hatton Sales Co., booth 4527, supplies Banner Ups Adhesive Banner Corner Tabs, PowerTabs, PowerTape Hem Reinforcing Tape, and EdgeTabs for making banners of all sizes. New products at the show are economical Banner Ups BravoTabs and PoleTape for creating pole pocket banners without sewing or welding pieces of material. Banner Ups products may be used for super-strong banners without the hassle or expense of sewing fabric together or grommeting. 


Eastsign, booth 4948, exhibits the DingTec 3D Multifunction sublimation vacuum press, used to create mugs, plates, key chains, souvenirs, and various other gifts—an attractive option for those considering personalization capabilities. It is easy to operate and works at high efficiency speeds. Product features include a smart control panel, flexible size, maximum transfer size of A3, high resolution up to 5,760 dpi, and multifunction—suitable for all sublimation materials. 


Epson America, booth 2505, showcases several of its newest printing technologies, including the SureColor S-Series 64-inch solvent printers designed for signage, vehicle graphics, and fine art; the SureColor T-Series plotters designed to meet the specific requirements of today’s engineering and scientific professionals; and Epson’s first dye-sublimation (dye-sub) printer—the SureColor F7070 64-inch dye-sub transfer printer designed for the production of high-quality soft signage, sportswear, apparel, accessories, and customized promotional items. 


Esko, booth 3759, features its new Kongsberg XN24 with i-cut, a highly versatile and productive digital finishing table that operates a range of applications, from kiss cutting to heavy-duty milling delivered by the high-power three kilowatt MultiCUT-HP milling spindle. Also displayed is the Kongsberg XP24 and i-XE10 Auto—all with i-cut Vision Pro. i-cut Suite workflow software, recipient of a 2012 InterTech Technology award, is accompanied by Esko Studio and ArtiosCAD software programs. 


FDC Graphic Films, booth 4310, displays its Series 7123 Print Media, a new 2-mil cast vinyl film designed for printing graphics for wrap applications. This film is suitable for flat surfaces and compound curves, and features the company’s exclusive Air Advantage adhesive system. The system provides easy application without bubbles or wrinkles and features a small channel cross-hatch pattern. Series 7123 offers a seven year outdoor durability and is warranted for use with FDC Series 7006 or 7000 laminate. 


Flexmag Industries, booth 4415, engineers FlexCoat - EZ to eliminate the issues associated with conventional flexible magnetic products laminated with a printable surface. Its patent-pending FlexCoat - EZ utilizes a strong magnetic sheet as a base, which is then coated with a printable surface that is compatible with most popular printing methods used in the print industry today. The product is easy to use, easy to print, and easy to install. Witness the multiple application possibilities at Flexmag’s booth. 


Foster Keencut, booth 3343, is one of the world’s leading brands of manual cutters and trimmers for signs, point of sale, and wide format graphics and displays. See the new Heat Knife Holder for fast, safe, and accurate fabric cutting and finishing, plus the On-A-Roll Lifter that allows operators to move wide and heavy rolls of media from the warehouse to the printer. SteelTraK, Evolution-E2, Javelin Integra, Sabre Series-2, Rotary Trimmers, and Straight Edges are also demonstrated. 


GBC, booth 2315, debuts the first in its new line of best-in-class thermal and PSA wide format laminators. With laminating and mounting capabilities, this line promises better design, higher productivity, ease of use, and a variety of features only found on higher priced machines at a competitive price. From a 44-inch entry-level model to a 64-inch dual heat thermal machine, expect a range of solutions to produce the most challenging applications. 


ImageOne Impact, booth 3715, launches over a dozen brand new products—shop tools, safety tools, and installer and vehicle wrap tools and hardware for mounting signs and banners. Review its new ProRoll Application Tape Tool as well. The industry’s best application tape tool offers fast, bubble-free, wrinkle-free masking as fast as you can push the ProRoll Tool. 


Laminators Incorporated, booth 5642, a leading manufacturer for 50 years, offers a complete line of sign panel products that are the industry standard for professional sign makers. Laminators’ lightweight rigid substrates are exceptionally strong and durable, and ideal for digital print applications. Manufactured in a variety of colors and sizes, finished surfaces are smooth and will not crack, chip, flake, or peel—even under harsh weather conditions. 


MACtac, booth 2811, highlights the MACmark 8900 series, which consists of intermediate vinyl marking films with a semi-permanent solvent-based acrylic adhesive that provides dimensional stability and outstanding performance. Master Magnetics, Inc., booth 2714, features the graphic arts industry’s widest options for flexible magnetic material. Available in up to 42-inch widths, PrintMagnetVinyl allows for printing with solvent, eco-solvent, UV, and latex ink systems. From vehicle signs for contractors, realtors, and restaurant delivery vehicles, to point of purchase retail signs, calendars, and local sports team schedules, an endless amount of items make printing on magnetic sheeting a profitable segment of your overall print business. 


Miller Weldmaster, booth 4763, manufactures hot wedge, hot air, and impulse Extreme Seam Machines for finishing billboards and banners to accompany a wide format printer. Stop by the booth to see the newest addition to its Extreme Seam Machine Line of welders, designed specifically for shops that produce signs and banners. 


Mimaki, booth 4515, showcases a new line of UV, dye-sublimation, and latex wide format and flatbed printers at the expo. New for 2013 is the JFX500-2131 UV LED flatbed, the TX500-1800DS direct to fabric printer, the 64-inch UJV500-160 roll-to-roll UV LED printer, the UJF-6042 UV LED tabletop flatbed, and the new CG-SRIII cutter. Also the JV400-130LX latex printer demonstrates soft signage applications including point of purchase and trade show graphics frequently created by print service providers in the graphic arts industry. 


Mutoh America, Inc., booth 2111, demonstrates its ValueJet 1638 and 2638 eco-solvent, staggered dual-head printers. Named SGIA’s Product of the Year in 2012, the ValueJet 1638 and 2638 print over 1,000 square feet per hour and include Smart Printing features such as Intelligent Interweave print technique to eliminate banding; and ValueJet Status Monitor, to monitor a printer’s settings and status from a smartphone. 


Novus Imaging, booth 5343, prides itself on developing innovative products that are cost effective and forward thinking in design and performance. Synergia H/UV now features the Patented Redwood Warp Engine. This new engine is available on machines that are configured with eight color channels and more. It provides the fastest print solution on the market with full eight color and grayscale print quality. It increases production speed to 3,000 square feet per hour for efficient, high-quality, sellable output. 


ONYX Graphics, Inc., booth 3949, exhibits the latest advances in ONYX workflow products including ONYX Thrive production workflow software, an end-to-end PDF workflow product for large format digital printers based on Adobe PDF Print Engine technologies. Stop by the booth to find out how ONYX unique technologies enhance color wide format output. ONYX experts are on hand to answer questions on practical color profiling. 


Oracal USA, an Orafol Company, booth 4532, highlights automotive applications with daily vehicle wraps of Oracal 970RA Wrapping Cast, Oracal 975 Textured Cast, Orajet 3751RA Wrapping Cast, and debuts the company’s newest addition to its portfolio, Oralite 5650RA Fleet Engineering Grade Reflective Film. Designed for easier reflective fleet applications, Oralite 5650RA combines RapidAir technology, superior printability, and retro-reflectivity. Also on display in the booth, new Oralite 5900 High Intensity Prismatic Grade Reflective Film ideal for highway signage applications. 


Palram Americas, booth 1922, adds a state-of-the-art polycarbonate production line and PALSUN polycarbonate is now available in sheets or coils up to 104 inches wide untrimmed. Other products in the portfolio include PALIGHT Premium, a bright white, smooth, foamed PVC substrate for optimal printing quality; PALIGHT EPS, an economical foamed PVC print substrate; PALIGHT Outdoor, foamed PVC for outdoor signage; PALCLEAR, a clear PVC monolithic sheet with water-clear clarity; and SUNLITE, a polycarbonate multi-wall sheet. 


Polytype America, booth 1726, is swissQprint’s North American distributor of the Oryx, Impala, and Nyala 2.5- and 3.2-meter UV flatbed printers. swissQprint’s UV flatbeds are market leaders with exceptional print quality and versatility. SA International (SAi), booth 2912, hosts the International Sign and Printmakers Guild—a free, member-led organization designed to bring members new customers and save money. Teckwin International, booth 1321, features the Teckwin TS-600, the ultimate 6.5x10-foot fixed vacuum flatbed along with other innovative flatbed printers. Also showcased is the TeckPro UV3200 3.2-meter roll-to-roll industrial grade UV printer. Teckwin large format printers combine cutting edge UV technology with brilliant color gamut and blazing speed. The portfolio of UV flatbed printing systems provides the industry with dependable service and a low cost of operation.


TradeSoft, booth 1208, provides seamless estimating and job management software for custom sign fabricators. Working in one database means better decision making, fewer mistakes, and improved synergy between departments. Functions include estimating, quoting, order entry, job creation, purchasing, inventory management, job costing, project management, scheduling, shipping, receiving, and billing. Links to several accounting packages are included as well. 


Value Vinyls, booth 4966, has been a trusted supplier of digital and screen printing material as well as industrial PVC since 1984. Its sign media products range from 26 to 196 inches wide and are available in white and colored laminated, coated, and mesh substrates. They are designed for use with UV, solvent, and latex ink printers.
