The Second Installment of Pre-Show Coverage
Continuing our pre-show coverage of the Specialty Graphic Imaging Association’s (SGIA’s) annual expo, which takes place October 18 to 20, 2012 in Las Vegas, NV, a second preview profiles additional companies. From hardware announcements to expansions of media portfolios, vendors stepped up this year to provide print service providers with more solutions to grow their business. 3A Composites USA, booth 2741, offers literature on its newest product, FiberMate. A two-page, four-color sheet describes how the wood-fiber panel is comprised on 100 percent recycled fiber manufactured into a high-density fiberboard. The media is available in a 3.2 millimeter thickness and 49x97-inch sheets.
3M Commercial Graphics, booth 2259, debuts 3M Envision Print Wrap Film 480Cv3 and 3M Envision Gloss Wrap Overlaminate 8548G. It is a high-performance non-PVC wrap film with a sustainability edge.
Agfa Graphics, booth 2059, provides a diverse inkjet portfolio from entry level to high-end production. It features the :Anapurna M2540 FB, a high-speed, UV-curable inkjet flatbed for graphic screenprinters, photo shops, and sign shops. It delivers near-photo quality, value, and ROI. There’s also the field upgradeable :Jeti 3020 Titan, a high-production, high-resolution, inkjet hybrid designed with a modular format.
Arlon Graphics, LLC, booth 3069, features several new digital removable and wall wrap films for interior and exterior use. Removable products include DPF 4300, DPF 206, and DPF 50WD White and Clear. It also holds daily vehicle wrap demonstrations using DPF 6000XRP and wall wrap demonstrations using Arlon’s exterior wall graphic films featuring DPF 8000 and DPF 6700.
Aurora Specialty Textiles Group, Inc., booth 1501, displays its line of Northern Lights Printable Textiles and Decoprint fabrics from DHJ. It offers over 50 styles of fabrics to meet any print technology and application. The fabrics are engineered to be compatible with latex, solvent, UV-curable, dye-sublimation, screenprint, and litho print technologies.
Bordeaux Digital PrintInk, booth 1300, exhibits premium ink and both water-based and UV-curable liquid laminates for a spectrum of inkjet technologies and applications. With proven success on Hewlett-Packard, Mimaki, Mutoh, and Roland printers, it offers new solutions for Epson eco-solvent printers as well as a water-based latex ink for use in piezo printheads. The inkjet solutions benefit from Bordeaux’s Mix & Match technology enabling easy transition from OEM ink, higher productivity, and increased savings.
Caldera, booth 2271, launches a new update of its RIP software, Caldera V9.1. It now integrates PSD/PSO Fogra Process Control into the RIP workflow for greater control, consistency, and stability of wide format printing processes. The cutting module, VisualCut+, is improved with a new user interface, features, and drivers for the Caldera Print-to-Cut application, giving users increased productivity with more than 30 plotters supported. Version 9.1 also integrates a new HPGL engine, optimized for all CAD and technical applications.
CET Color, booth 2837, partners with Integra International to demonstrate print/cut solutions designed to help reach new markets and generate additional revenue. CET showcases its new X-Press 500Q 4x8 UV flatbed and the X-Press 1000HL hybrid printer. These printers along with the Aristo GL and TL Series CNC cutters provide a true print/cut system.
ClingZ, booth 2219, promotes ClingZ Wide Format UV electrically charged film that adheres to any dry indoor surface. It’s versatile, clinging to drywall, glass, wood, metal, and brick without adhesive. ClingZ is environmentally friendly, recyclable, and non-toxic. The film is easy to use, place, position, and remove; for short-term retail advertising, trade show graphics, or posters.
Colex, booth 2223, introduces its latest Sharpcut Flatbed Cutter with optional semi-automatic board and digital roll feeders. The Sharpcut is Colex’s most productive solution for finishing complex digital display graphics jobs. Its fully integrated hardware and software solution turns a digital cutting table into a true, short-run production system. The Sharpcut includes a fixed knife, oscillating knife, creasing wheel, kiss-cutting knife, and router that allows for a multitude of applications.
DreamScape, booth 3375, offers digitally printable wallcovering media for solvent, eco-solvent, and UV-curable and latex inks. It is a certified commercial grade wallcovering available in 15 textures and optically tuned for digital printing. Also, WallWrap adhesive-backed textured wallcovering and Terralon, PVC-free wallcovering are available. New at SGIA 2012, Silver Flash and Gold Flash chrome finish wallcoverings. With Silver Flash and Gold Flash designers, artists, and printers create a modern, high-end look in brilliant colors.
Drytac Corporation, booth 701, shows ViziPrint, a clear, UV printable polyester film easily installed on glass with a squeegee. No water or soapy concoction is required. ViziPrint is cost effective for retail and gives a higher end look than static cling. Also in the booth, JetMounter laminators, the JetMounter JM55Fuzion, the AFC SmartCoater 1.6 liquid coater, banner stands, and Visual Magnetics’ magnetic graphics system.
Durst Image Technology US LLC, booth 401, displays two of its innovative digital printing platforms, the new Rho P10 250 and Rho P10 320R UV printers, plus its workhorse printer, the Rho 1000 Continuous Print Production System. Durst demonstrates exceptional image quality, workflow efficiency, productivity, and versatility.
Epson, booth 2359, showcases two all-new series of printers, as well as new ink. The SureColor S-series offers opportunities for manufacturers to produce quality signs faster. The SureColor T-series introduces a line of printers to the GIS, mapping, and technical and point of purchase signage/corporate technical printing markets. Epson also introduces UltraChrome GS2 and GSX ink boasting a new chemistry that enables durablility.
Esko, booth 2081, features its new Kongsberg XN24, a versatile and productive digital finishing table that operates in a range of applications, from kiss-cutting to heavy-duty milling delivered by the MultiCUT-HP milling spindle. Also on display is the Kongsberg XP24 with auto-feeder and i-XE10 Auto—all with i-cut Vision Pro. i-cut Suite workflow software, recipient of a 2012 InterTech Technology award, is accompanied by Esko Studio and ArtiosCAD.
FLEXcon, booth 3151, invites attendees to release their inner “green” and learn about sustainable alternatives for large format graphic applications. See a full line of WALLdeco, COUNTERdeco, WINDOWdeco, and FLEXmark floor art products. Novelty films like SHIMMERcal and PRISMcal to high-performance adhesives like FLEXmountSELECT offer customers more options for their brand/visual application needs.
Fujifilm North America Corporation, booth 2015, highlights the Inca Onset S40i flatbed UV inkjet printer with a zoned bed to boost productivity; the Uvistar Pro 8 hybrid superwide printer that produces print for point of purchase and outdoor advertising on flexible and rigid media; the Acuity Advance inkjet flatbed printer, offering stunning quality with a white ink option; and the Acuity LED 1600 eight-color hybrid wide format inkjet printer. Fujifilm software updates include Colorgate and Caldera RIP software; ColorPath Sync, a cloud-based software color correction solution; and automation software for greater efficiency.
Gans Ink & Supply Co., booth 3321, offers its Pyrojet Sublimation Inkjet series for strength, amazing optical density, and unsurpassed color gamut for any sublimation medium. GBC, booth 521, exhibits new films including Arctic Light, a 3-mil PVC pressure-sensitive film for indoor signage and short-term outdoor applications and Arctic Premium Vue-Thru, an optically clear adhesive best used for backlit displays. Featured equipment includes 2064WF and 640t wide format laminators. The 2064WF is designed to laminate and mount graphics up to 64 inches wide and the 640t runs cold finishing jobs roll to roll at speeds of up to 16 feet per minute.
General Formulations, booth 747, is a leader in U.S. manufactured pressure-sensitive films including Concept Digital Media, Laminates, and Mounting Films and Comp-U-Cut CC500 - CC700 sign and fleet graphic vinyl. It offers the solutions needed for point of purchase, wall graphics, windows, floor, carpet, fleet, and vehicle wrap materials. Graphics One, LLC (GO), booth 121, launches GO AquaMax SX and DX printers. The printers offer 64-inch high-speed performance and an eight-color channel using Sepiax direct to anything water-based resin ink for printing indoor/outdoor applications and GO Xtreme V dye-sublimation (dye-sub) ink for high-quality dye-sub printing. Priced at a great value of $14,495 for the 64-inch and $10,995 for the 54-inch, the AquaMax is a must see.
Graphtec America, booth 2691, demonstrates its full line of roll feed and flatbed cutters. The roll feed cutters include the professional, high-performance FC8000 series; professional CE series; and entry level Silhouette Cameo cutter. Along with the roll feed cutters, Graphtec’s best-in-class flatbed cutters are demonstrated. The popular i-DesignR software series for sign making, print and cut, and garment decoration, including rhinestone applications, is also featured.
Grimco, Inc., booth 3213, exhibits the following printers, a Hewlett-Packard (HP) Scitex FB700 flatbed, an Epson SureColor S30670, an HP Designjet L26500, and a Mimaki JV33. It also hosts car wrap demonstrations with both 3M and Avery films.

Seiko I Infotech, booth 3713, introduces the new ColorPainter H2P wide format printer. The ColorPainter H2P is available in two sizes, 74 and 104 inches, with the company’s new high-capacity VX ink set. Printing in four-color mode with high-capacity inks provides a low running cost and low ink prices. The H2P runs at a maximum speed of 856 square feet per hour with excellent print quality.

Zünd, booth 3459, debuts the Zünd BHS, a fully automated Board-Handling System shown with the G3, Zünd’s line of high-performance digital cutting systems. The BHS consists of an automatic feeder, transport system, and stacker. Also showing is the compact S3, with a direct-drive system that is superfast, quiet, and maintenance free. The S3 accommodates the range of Zünd tool options for cutting, routing, creasing/scoring, punching, and marking.
