One World, One drupa

It's a drupa Year

In Düsseldorf, Germany an event is held every four years sure to lure in print providers—drupa. The trade show invites attendees from all over to experience the newest products and services. With 2012 a drupa year, many vendors have waited to release new products until May 3 to 16, 2012—making the Spring a busy season for buyers and reporters alike.

The show’s motto is “one world—one drupa.” This feeling is echoed throughout 19 halls, which are broken into various segments such as digital printing, post press, printing, and paper converting. The drupa contingent hopes to grow from 2008 numbers, 1,971 exhibitors from 52 countries and 390,000 visitors from 140 countries.

Play at the Park

Found at drupa 2004 and 2008 and appearing again this year is the drupa Innovation Park 2012 presented by digi:media. Nine theme parks encompassing the latest innovations and ideas are found in one hall—7.a. Exhibits are complemented by talks from exhibitors on two presentation stages in the same hall.

Parks to take note of include the following. Print Automation Park presents solutions for optimization with planning and control systems, management information systems, JDF applications, and server applications.

Dynamic Publishing Park displays solutions for multi-channel publishing, applications for print and Web, Web to print, print on demand, and cross-sector solutions for integrated information and publication management.

Digital Imaging Park presents live photo shoots and digital imagery, as well as digital printing solutions with high quality, color fidelity, and production speeds.

Print Meets Mobile Park showcases communication solutions shaping the future, such as mobile tagging, quick response codes, and augmented reality solutions.

Sustainable Issues

A special exhibit entitled Media Mundo focuses on sustainability. Information, live discussions, and presentations are offered in about 2,100 square feet of space.

Topics include sustainable forestry and paper; energy, efficiency, and climatic change; recycling and material efficiency; process optimization and sustainable corporate management; sustainable product design; and print as a social medium.

Tour Guide

drupa takes up a vast amount of space and for those attendees looking for a bit of direction, guided tours are available. The Highlights Tours cover ten industry themes and lead visitors to relevant exhibitors.

The ten themes of the Highlights Tours are creation and production, workflow systems, offset print, value-added printing, “green” printing, growth market digital printing, large format printing and advertising technology, printing post-production and logistics, packaging and label production, and functional print products.

Heading to drupa? There is certainly enough to entertain you both on the floor and outside of the exhibit hall. Enjoy the culture as well the new innovative products presented at the two week show.
