FESPA Digital takes place in Barcelona, Spain on February 21 to 24, 2012. The program, like all FESPA events, is designed to invite print service providers (PSPs) to take advantage of new opportunities and grow their business. A number of zones, conferences, and showcases are planned throughout the four day event.
For example, visitors can explore the show within a show of FESPA Fabric 2012. About ten percent of the expo floor is devoted to this event, focused on advancements in garment printing, embroidery, and decoration. A few notable occurrences in this particular section include the Fabric Theatre, where leading industry specialists share their knowledge on print and prepress techniques and Charlie’s Corner, with Charlie Taublieb presenting educational demonstrations on screenprinting and garment decoration techniques.
Another area to visit is Print Shop Live!, which allows visitors to experience each element of the production process first hand in an interactive forum. It is moderated by technical consultant, Sophie Matthews-Paul, and launched at FESPA Americas in Orlando, FL in 2011. Printers test and try their own artwork files on both wide and narrow format technologies, from prepress to finishing on a range of substrates. Print Shop Live! encourages visitors to amass technical knowledge that both boosts productivity and extends the capabilities of their digital equipment.
The Narrow Format Zone is another stop for those interested in new opportunities. It invites attendees to investigate how adding smaller format digital output to their service portfolio helps tap into new revenue streams and expand their customer base.
To depict the possibilities of print in a real life setting, Big Buck’s Café acts as both a coffee break stop and a showcase for all forms of signage. Promotional and point of sale graphics, interior décor, printed furniture, soft signage, fine art, and garments are on display in the pop-up café. All of the applications are created with the newest substrates and inks found in the market.
The FESPA Hall of Fame launches at the show as well. Nominees—those printers who have pioneered a new technology, demonstrate innovation, stand out on skill or service, lead in sustainability efforts, or made some other contribution to the industry—were published in December 2011.
Based on votes, FEPSA narrowed down a short list of up to ten printers per country that are featured at the Hall of Fame event at the expo. Each of these received VIP status to attend FESPA Digital 2012 and voting to determine the overall winner is held in Barcelona.
