Success at SGIA
Recapping the Latest Expo
The Specialty Graphic Imaging Association’s (SGIA’s) annual trade show wrapped up in New Orleans, LA at the end of October 2011. A success for all, many of the exhibitors we spoke with said sales were up and orders were moving off the show floor.
A total of 16,006 attendees perused one of the graphic arts’ biggest events, visiting over 456 booths in the process. This number improved 12.4 percent from 2009. The percentage of first time attendees was 36 percent.
Product of the Year
Of note, 2011’s Product of the Year competition, which highlights digital imaging products that keep the specialty imaging industry moving forward. Some of the winners in specific categories included Roland DGA Corporation’s ECO-UV S Ink in Digital Inks. For Media-Textile, Visual Magnetics LP’s VM-Canvas 22 took the prize. BioMedia Display Film from Ilford won in the Media-Vinyl category. In Media-Films Asphalt Art USA took home the top honor. EFI’s VUTEk GS3250LX won Flatbed-Rigid Substrate UV >$200K MSRP. Lastly, Mimaki USA, Inc.’s JFX-1631 was awarded Flatbed-Rigid Substrate UV <$200K MSRP.
Expert Advice Zones
Each of the expo’s six Expert Advice Zones were a big draw. Of interest, the newest member; narrow format. Attendees witnessed items such as OEM markings, labels, name plates, and small point of purchase signage. Always a favorite, the PDAA zone included certified installers wrapping lockers, helmets, and vehicles with a variety of media.
Looking Ahead
We look forward to the 2012 SGIA expo, held October 18 to 20 in Las Vegas, NV, to witness the next great products propelling the graphic arts forward.
