A Preview of the April Show

 

The International Sign Association’s (ISA’s) annual International Sign Expo takes place April 28 to 30, 2011 in Las Vegas, NV at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center. More than 17,000 attendees flocked to the show floor last year in Orlando, FL. This year’s event promises to be full of innovation. Several educational and networking events are planned including the ISA New and Green Product Showcase and the American Wrap Star Competition.

3M Graphics Market Center, booth 714, previews 3M Scotchprint Wrap Film Series 1080 in new brushed metal finishes. 3M wraps a car using the new textures along with other finishes from the series. Scotchprint Wrap Film Series 1080 are long-term, removable, dual-cast films. They are designed for solid color vehicle detailing, decoration, and full wraps without the need for graphic protection. Their pressure-activated adhesive allows them to slide and be repositioned until firm pressure is applied. Advanced Greig Laminators, Inc. (AGL), booth 2015, presents 6-mil Cover-Rite Textured Vinyl laminating film to protect graphics displayed in high-traffic, public areas where they are exposed to frequent touching or incidental scratches. The attractive texture on the film’s surface eliminates glare and minimizes the visibility of fingerprints and other damage. The 10.5-foot printer is designed for soft signage applications and utilizes environmentally friendly water-based dispersed dye inks on an advanced printing platform that delivers point of purchase quality output at up to 775 square feet per hour. This six-color printer employs the imaging and workflow innovations found on the latest Rho printers, utilizing Durst’s Quadro Array system. The color dispersion inks—including options for light black and the subsequent calendaring of the printed media—ensure that colors are exceptionally brilliant, which results in the highest quality image without altering the feel of the material. Fujifilm North America Corporation, booth 5353, displays a complete portfolio of wide format printers, media, color management, and workflow solutions. The Acuity Advance HS X2 UV flatbed printer offers photographic print quality at 462 square feet per hour (sf/h) or over 700 sf/h in express mode. The UVISTAR roll printers, available in 3.5 or five meters, print point of purchase or billboard-quality and produce output at up to 3,700 sf/h. Fujifilm’s Web-based Taskero Universe ColorPath Verified monitors all color equipment in a shop, while ColorGATE ProductionServer software is compatible with Fujifilm’s wide format printer portfolio. GCC, booth 3947, debuts the latest cutter—the RX series. Appearing for the first time in the U.S., the RX series is the flagship model of GCC cutters. HP also demonstrates its newest UV-curable solutions—the HP Scitex FB700 printer, a 98-inch flatbed solution that loads up to six sheets of media simultaneously, and the 64-inch HP Scitex FB500 printer, which prints on virtually any rigid and flexible media. Hexis, booth 1709, launches a new latex digital printing film and gloss laminate designed for vehicle wrapping applications. Both films are free of all materials with certain environmental issues such as PVC, solvents, plasticizers, and heavy metals. The compound is conformable enough for applications requiring flexible film. HXL300WG2 features a thickness of 3.9-mil and boasts a printed and laminated vertical outdoor exposure of three years. Representing a commitment to water-based technology, DTX is designed for direct printing with synthetic fabrics utilizing Epson printhead technology. Lintec of America, booth 3955, creates pressure-sensitive films and specializes in optically clear, textured, and frosted inkjet printable window films. The company introduces WINCOS Easy Apply, an optically clear adhesive film. It applies with a simple spray of water, without the need for mixing or special installation fluids.
