The industry is excited about this month’s ISA Expo, taking place April 11–14 at Mandalay Bay Hotel & Convention Center in Las Vegas, NV. Considered the largest sign show in the world, this year’s expo boasts over 1,800 exhibitors! We have provided an overview of what just a few exhibitors will be featuring. If you attend the show, be sure to stop by booth 96 to visit us.
3M Graphics Market Center, booth 3418, features Scotchcal Graphic Film IJ35-20, an intermediate film for solvent piezo inkjet printing. The 3.2-mil opaque, polymeric calendered matte film is designed for indoor and outdoor applications and has a three-year expected durability.
3P InkJet Textiles, booth 4442, presents a newly created range of polyester fabrics especially for high speed printing with sublimation inks. The new SubliDirect line comprises four different fabrics—SubliDirect Voile FR (IQ-IJ 617), SubliDirect Flag (IQ-IJ 621), SubliDirect Display FR (IQ-IJ 625), and SubliDirect Taft FR (IQ-IJ 629), whereas the Flag material is also available with a flame retardant coating (IQ-IJ 619). All textiles marked with FR are flame retardant and can be used unconsidered in public buildings. The product is available in 61-, 98-, and 122-inch widths.
Agfa Graphics, booth 5249, shows the :Anapurna XL, Agfa’s newest UV wide format, hybrid roll-to-roll/flatbed printing system for indoor and outdoor signs and displays. Attendees can come to Agfa’s booth for live demos of the newest printing system to offer high-quality printing for roll-to-roll and rigid applications. The :Anapurna XL, like the smaller :Anapurna L, offers high-volume industrial printing applications for flexible and rigid media using Agfa’s UV-curable :Anapurna ink. Maximum print width is 98.5 inches for :Anapurna XL and 63 inches for the :Anapurna L. The Dual-Mode on both systems enables printing of two half-sized media simultaneously.
Arlon, Inc., booth 2413, announces DPF 2400 Printable Reflective Film. This 5-mil printable reflective vinyl with permanent pressure-sensitive adhesive conforms well to both flat and irregular surfaces. Designed for both indoor and outdoor promotional graphics, it can be used when designing a graphic or promotional advertisement for daytime enhancement, or requiring increased visibility at night. It can also be applied to motor and railway coaches, and fleet and vehicle markings. DPF 2400 is available in 48.5-inch by 25- and 50-yard rolls, and has a seven-year outdoor durability for flat surfaces, and five-year for irregular surfaces.
Avery Graphics, booth 1012, features its new Easy Apply RST technology. RS vinyl slides smoothly for exact positioning, is easily repositionable, looks like glossy paint, and provides year-round performance. Installers drape the vinyl and slide it into place. Air bubbles and wrinkles aren’t a problem. Air egress channels allow air to escape so bubbles and wrinkles can be wiped away without compromising the vinyl’s ability to mold and stick to compound curves, rivets, and corrugations. Easy Apply RS is extremely durable, up to five years applied and protected, and Avery guarantees removability for the life of the graphic.
Daige, booth 3863, demonstrates how the Quikmount 4 cold laminator will meet all your needs for laminating, mounting, and applying transfer tape, while costing a lot less than comparable laminators. It has all the features needed to make laminating fast, easy, and trouble free. Features include a heavy duty motor, automatic take up reel, silicone covered rollers, and more. Quikmount 4 is made in the U.S. with all steel and aluminum construction. Available in 25-, 38-, 55-, and 65-inch widths.
Drytac Corp., booth 5444, displays the JM 63 model JetMounter heavy-duty heated roller laminator. The unit is capable of mounting, laminating, and encapsulating, in addition to other finishing processes. The 63-inch-wide unit will process at speeds up to 20 feet-per-minute.
DuPont Imaging Technologies, booth 1236, shows its full line of digital printing systems to produce color any way you want it. Featuring several new technologies for the first time in North America are the new DuPont Artistri 3320 direct-to-textile fabrics digital printing system and several new upgrades to the DuPont Cromaprint UV family of wide format UV cure inkjet systems.
Durst, booth 5437, displays the Rho 600 Pictor Flatbed UV Inkjet Printer, a fully featured hybrid platform priced under $195,000. Its 30-picolitre, Generation II Quadro Array print system produces crisp, color-accurate images at true 600x600 dpi resolution, delivers Durst-quality white ink, special-effect varnish and spot colors, and prints onto virtually any surface up to 62 inches wide and 1.58 inches thick, at speeds up to 270 square-feet-per-hour. An advanced Teflon-coated media transport system confidently handles both rigid materials and roll media. The Rho 600 Pictor is ideal for oversized photo-quality images, prototyping, POP displays, and signage, as well as a wider variety of indoor and outdoor applications.
EFI, Inc., booth 4424, features the VUTEk QS Series Superwide Printers—the QS2000 and QS3200. The first to incorporate EFI’s new High-Definition Print (HDP) technology, they deliver high print speeds with 1,080 dpi resolution, proprietary image smoothing,
6-color imaging with a seventh white ink channel, and crisp 4-point text. Also on display is the VUTEk 3360 Superwide Format Printer, available in new lower cost, entry level configurations. Also, VUTEk BioVu Solvent Inks, the first solvent-based ink made from a renewable resource—namely, corn—and recognized by the U.S. Environment Protection Agency.
Fujifilm Sericol, booth 4460, showcases the Inca Columbia Turbo, which the company says is the world’s fastest digital UV flatbed printer. The UV-curing unit prints rolled or rigid sheets up to 126x63x1.5 inches and offers print speeds of up to 1,720 square-feet-per-hour.
Gandinnovations, booth 1424, introduces the new Jeti 1224 True UV Flatbed. It is a compact and economical flatbed specifically designed to give print shops the versatility they desire. The Jeti 1224 UV True Flatbed uses 24 Spectra print heads to produce high speed graphics in six colors. True flatbed table using linear motion to control movement ensures perfect registration on rigid and flexible materials. Easy loading and unloading of large and heavy material can be performed by one person with the 4x8-foot print area. A strong sectional vacuum table holds virtually any rigid material in place up to two inches thick.
GBC, booth 2602, demonstrates new AccuShield, an improved, optically clear alternative to liquid coating. Also shown is the new line of SurePrint media, including photobase, polyester, and vinyl substrates for aqueous-based printers. In addition, the 2080WF laminator, designed to handle film up to 79 inches wide. Also demonstrated is the 2064WF system to laminate and mount graphics up to 64 inches wide. This laminator can run thermal and cold finishing jobs consecutively for maximum productivity.
Graphics One, booth 3472, displays the GO Viper TX direct-to-fabric system, which includes the Viper TX printer, GO Sublimator, and GO Tango inks. The Viper TX system offers a 65-inch printing width, 1,440 dpi resolution, and print speeds up to 425 square-feet-per-hour.
Hewlett-Packard, booth 4148, exhibits the HP Designjet 10000s low-solvent printer. The six-color unit produces signage up to 104 inches wide, offers speeds up to 176 square-feet-per-hour, resolutions up to 720 dpi, and features hot swap ink cartridge capabilities.
InteliCoat Technologies, booth 3455, offers upgraded Magic GFPOLY 8-mil glossy polypropylene banner material, designed for photo-quality with both eco-solvent and solvent inkjet printers. Featuring a special coating, the product is available in 30-, 36-, 42-, 54-, and 60-inch widths.
KAPCO Graphic Products, booth 3466, features new solvent media including 6-mil Matte White Vinyl, 19-mil Gloss and Satin Poly/Cotton Blend Canvas, Satin Polyester Fabric,
10-mil Clear Polycarbonate Film, and 180-gram Water-Proof Matte Paper that are compatible with OEM solvent and mild solvent inks. Whether suited for outdoor signage or banner stands, KAPCO has its full range on display.
Leggett & Platt Digital Technologies, booth 4406, displays the Virtu72. It prints up to 1,500 square-feet-per-hour on a variety of rolled and rigid substrates 8x8-foot and larger, with 100 percent bleed and up to 2.5 inches thick. Revolutionary TypeSense prints sharper edges and finer detail without compromising speed, and the newest feature, BlendSense image optimization system, reduces banding associated with UV ink printing on dark, solid color areas. Optional AutoLoad maximizes throughput at top production speeds for increased capacity and productivity.
MACtac, booth 5023, unveils the new 1.5-mil Permacolor RAYZor. According to the company, the product produces flawless outdoor fleet and vehicle wraps, while saving applicators time and money. Permacolor RAYZor (LF3640), at 1.5-mil, is the thinnest cast vinyl overlaminate available. When coupled with MACtac’s IMAGin B-free JT5529BFD high performance vinyl, users can expect a paint-like finish, ultra-conformability and durability for easy application, and a long-term end result that is flawless and smooth.
Magnum Magnetics, booth 1810, offers DigiMag Vinyl, a solvent inkjet-printable magnetic sheeting. Available in standard roll lenths of 25, 50, 100, and 200 feet, or custom cuts, the sheets are available in matte white and gloss white.
MGE, Inc., booth 1224, shows its new i-cut GraphicsRouter which can route up to 3-inch-thick material. It offers entry level and fully automated versions of its i-XL Esko-Kongsberg based product line, capable of straight cutting, kiss-cutting vinyl and decals, oscillate-cutting of foam materials, creasing of corrugated/folding carton materials, and routing of flexible and semi rigid materials including Acrylic, Sintra, and much more—all in a fully integrated workflow through the printer RIP.
Mimaki USA, booth 1006, presents the JF series of UV-curing flatbed printers. The JF-1631 and JF-1610 feature direct printing onto rigid substrates, 1,200 dpi resolutions; six-color, white ink, clearcoat; a vacuum table, and the ability to print on to materials up to two inches thick.
Mutoh America Inc., booth 4160, debuts the Spitfire 65/90 Extreme printers. They incorporate Mutoh’s revolutionary patented Intelligent Interweaving printing technology, in addition to the newly developed 540 dpi productivity print modes that generally consume 30 percent less ink than 720x720 modes. The Spitfire Extreme uses mild solvent inks that have excellent drying and drop fixation characteristics, enabling a wide range of uncoated, eco-coated, and coated substrates and self-adhesive PVC to be used with outdoor durability lasting up to three years.
Nazdar, booth 4818, features a wide range of Lyson solvent, aqueous, and UV digital inks designed for narrow, wide, and grand inkjet printing. In booth 4618, Nazdar Consulting Services features its Chromatix Certification Program which is designed to increase your productivity and profitability when printing digital or screen graphics images. Also, in booth 4620, Nazdar SourceOne offers a complete line of equipment, inks, media, and related printing supplies representing leading industry manufacturers.
Neschen Americas, booth 1418, displays the new SEAL Print Shield Floor Guard. The new film offers excellent durability, slip and scuff resistance, and its textured vinyl surface easily masks fingerprints and surface dirt. Print Shield Floor Guard is recommended for floor graphics, pop-up tradeshow exhibits, and other high-traffic applications requiring an extra durable overlaminate. It is available in rolls 38"x25', 38"x200', and 51"x200'.
ONYX Graphics, Inc., booth 5044, shows the ONYX software suite, including ONYX ProductionHouse, ONYX PosterShop, and ONYX RIPCenter, which support more than 400 popular printer models from small to large, from grand format inkjets to flatbed printers. Version 7.0 was introduced in May 2006, with new features and toolsets that increase productivity and meet the demands of new business opportunities. The new Version 7.1 update includes support for Windows Vista, Postscript/PDF RIP-and-Print-on-the-Fly, improved ICC Profile accuracy, and improvements to Contour Cutting Workflow.
Océ North America, booth 5366, features the Arizona 250 GT, the winner of the 2006 DPI Vision Award. It uses UV-curable inks and Océ VariaDot imaging technology to deliver near-photographic image quality, includes a true flatbed platform to print onto a wide variety of rigid substrates, and features an optional roll-to-roll module for printing onto flexible media. The Océ Arizona 250 GT uses four-color UV-curable inks and delivers a true production print speed of 172 square-feet-per-hour. Océ VariaDot imaging technology, the next evolution of piezo inkjet technology, enables a print head to produce dots of variable size versus print heads using fixed-droplet technology.
ORACAL USA, booth 4837, announces its new perforated window graphics films. Series 3676 will feature a new 60/40 perforation pattern, which is suited for architectural window graphics and other applications that require more surface area to create vivid prints. Series 3675 features a 50/50 perforation pattern, making it ideal for vehicle windows and other applications that require maximum visibility through the graphic.
Raster Printers, booth 5231, introduces a new UV flatbed printer, the Daytona T600UV. Based on a stationary vacuum table and moving gantry design, the T600UV offers the most versatile rigid media handling from small tiles to large two-inch-thick boards. This design approach achieves precise dot registration resulting in sharp text and photographic image quality. Utilizing six gray scale print heads, T600UV can produce graphics at 1,080 dpi resolution in two configurations—CMYK and light cyan, light magenta or white and varnish. Pricing is in the $65,000 range.
Roland DGA, booth 3812, highlights the introduction of Roland Color, a revolutionary new spot color fidelity system for the company’s inkjet line. Included in Roland’s new VersaWorks 2.2 RIP software, Roland Color allows professionals to quickly and easily match logos and other corporate identity elements and supports all Roland printers and printer/cutters. In addition, Roland introduces new mesh printing capabilities for the 104-inch AdvancedJET AJ-1000. Ideal for banners, billboards, outdoor signage, and other durable graphics, the AJ-1000 is now available with an optional mesh printing unit that supports economical unlined mesh media. Roland is also hosting live vehicle wrap, Roland Color, and VDP demonstrations.
The Fletcher-Terry Company, booth 5073, features its unique line of cutting solutions. The Fletcher Substrate Cutter (FSC) is a robust, manually-operated cutter, which offers clean, accurate cuts in a variety of materials, most of which only a saw is currently used for. The company also features other products that offer both cutting and trimming on the same machine. These new cutters and trimmers come in a wide variety of sizes, from 40 to 200 inches in 20-inch increments. Fletcher’s new cutters include wall-mounted, table-mounted, and portable models.
Zünd America, booths 5260 & 5060, showcases its line of flatbed cutting/routing systems with Optiscout vision registration and workflow software. Features include 1kW routing/cutting dedicated or combination heads, automatic tool setup, the Zünd Tool Manager, and the ability to handle materials up to two inches thick.
