FESPA 2010

FESPA 2010 concluded in Munich, Germany on June 26. The event attracted more than 21,000 visitors from over 130 countries. Over 700 exhibitors were spread out over five halls.

Agfa Graphics declared a new partnership with DuPont. The :Jeti AquaJet direct to textile printer is now compatible with DuPont’s Artistri inks. The technology extends the color gamut, increases throughput, and lowers ink consumption of the AquaJet Pro inks. Availability commences third quarter, with AquaJet users able to switch to Artistri. Caldera Graphics announced Costview 2.0, which now enables users to monitor print jobs via Apple’s iPad. The tool allows for all print job costs to be calculated. The company also launched EasyColor, a spectrophotometer for the linearization and profiling of devices for flexible reflective and transparent materials. INFO# 208

d.gen International, Inc. launched the Teleios Grande, a 130-inch direct to textile dye-sublimation printer. It features up to eight colors and comes with an inline fixing kit that allows users to print onto 60 percent polyester fabrics. INFO# 209

Durst Image Technology introduced the Rhotex 320 and Rho 750 printers. The Rhotex, used for soft signage, features water-based disperse dye inks, which are odor-free and emit no volatile organic compounds. The Rho 750 is a series of modular flatbed printers designed for users looking to gradually advance output speeds as they grow. INFO# 210

EFI demonstrated its MediaMaster system on the VUTEk GS3200 for the first time in Europe. The fully-automated material handling system handles full-size 59x118-inch boards at up to 50 beds per hour and masters as many as three-up smaller boards across the width of the printer. INFO# 211

Fujifilm North America Corp. launched its new Acuity Advance HS-X2 98x120-inch flatbed printer. The X2 employs a dual zoning system with independent vacuum control. Dual zones allow for printing two four- by eight-foot sheets simultaneously. The company also launched an automated media handling system for the Inca Onset S20. INFO# 212

Gerber Scientific Products debuted its Gerber CAT UV flatbed printer. The device utilizes Gerber CAT inks, which provide superior adhesion and scratch resistance. It uses Cold Fire Cure technology, which supports printing on a wide array of substrates, including heat-sensitive and recycled materials. INFO# 213

GMG’s SmartProfiler, an add-on for its color management solution—ColorServer, allows print service providers to create custom color profiles and printer calibrations. The SmartProfiler is compatible with Hewlett-Packard’s (HP) Scitex printers, Mimaki’s UJF-3042 A3, and Roland’s VersaUV LEC-330. INFO# 214

HP introduced the Scitex FB700, a 98-inch version of the new FB500 UV flatbed printer. It offers optional white ink, foldable tables, and a load while printing feature. HP also announces its position as chair of the Wide Format Workroom of The International Cooperation for the Integration of Processes in Prepress, Press, and Postpress Organization. The committee defines open JDF standards for wide format printing workflows. INFO# 215

INX Digital International introduced Eco Bulk ink, a delivery system designed with cardboard and comprised of one box of ink. Silver inkjet ink ran on a Mimaki JV3 printer demonstrating its appeal to the label and packaging markets. A new water-based textile ink is for direct printing on synthetic fabrics with printers utilizing Epson printheads. INFO# 216

Matan Digital Printers provided live demonstrations of the new Barak high-speed (HS) modes on its 138- and 197-inch Barak printers. The HS mode allows users to efficiently print billboard- and point of purchase-quality jobs without switching between inks. INFO# 217

Joining Océ’s Arizona flatbed printer portfolio is the 550 XT extra-large UV printer, capable of outputting on a variety of substrates up to 98.4x120 inches. It features a production print mode of 462 square feet per hour (sf/h) and 709 sf/h in express mode. In addition, a roll media option allows users to print roll-based media up to 86.6 inches wide. Roland DGA Corp. showcased the new CAMM-1 PRO Series GX-640 vinyl cutter, a 64-inch device. It features Roland’s optical registration system, Quadralign, which reads pre-printed crop marks and accurately aligns the graphic. This allows the GX-640 to contour cut pre-printed designs with precision. INFO# 219

Summa, Inc. debuted its first flatbed cutter, the F1612, which features the ability to use up to three cutting tools simultaneously. It is able to cut both sheet and rigid materials. The F1612’s work area is 63x47 inches. INFO# 220

Teckwin International introduced the Teckstorm TS300, a flatbed printer with a roll-to-roll option. The bed features a print area of 94x47 inches and prints on media up to two inches thick. It includes a vacuum bed with eight zones, which can be individually activated. INFO# 221
