ONYX Graphics Announces SmartApps VehicleWraps Plug-in for Adobe
Illustrator Software
ONYX Graphics, Inc. today introduced the SmartApps™ VehicleWraps plug-in for Adobe® Illustrator® software, giving users the ability to combine
design and paneling of vehicle wraps within one application to streamline print production and finishing. SmartApps VehicleWraps is the newest
addition to the SmartApps line of products focusing on wide format plug-ins for design applications. The SmartApps VehicleWraps plug-in was
recently previewed in the ONYX Graphics booth at the International Sign Expo, March 22-24, in Orlando.
“Lack of preparation tools available today force print service providers producing vehicle wraps to fragment their design and prep workflow,
significantly increasing turnaround times,” explains Kevin Murphy, President and CEO of ONYX Graphics, Inc. “The SmartApps VehicleWraps
plug-in simplifies and combines design and preparation to create a more cost-efficient and productive workflow in an application that is already
familiar to them.”
Reduce file preparation time and costs
Designers using Adobe Illustrator software to create vehicle wraps have access to easy-to-use tools including third-party vehicle templates for image
and text placement. However, they lack the proper tools to prepare print-ready panels for the RIP. When the file arrives at the print station, production
staff must then utilize generic tiling tools in the RIP to prepare panels for printing. Tiling functionality in RIP software is not specific to vehicle wrapping
and may not provide tools needed to edit individual tile overlaps and bleeds, name each tile, or create tiles for windows and body panels at the same
time. The result is often a dual overlap: a duplication of effort for both the designer and print production staff, plus added back-and-forth
communication – all of which increases preparation time and creates a more error-prone workflow.
The SmartApps VehicleWraps plug-in provides designers the necessary tools from within the design program that help eliminate the overlap and
streamline production. Designers can easily specify necessary set-up items such as tiles and bleeds so when the print production staff receives
the file, no additional preparation is necessary.
In addition, the SmartApps VehicleWraps plug-in can help reduce overhead costs by decreasing the time spent preparing vehicle wraps for print.
Reduced media costs can also be realized with the ability to individually edit bleeds and overlaps for each panel.
Streamline installation
Lack of proper tools to facilitate communication between print service providers and installers can make it difficult for installers to know exactly where
each panel should be placed and is a common reason for redoing a print job. The SmartApps VehicleWraps plug-in offers tools to create tile maps to
easily communicate panel placement and print names on each panel to help identify them. This feature simplifies communication, helps streamline
installation and greatly reduces the risk of a job reprint.
SmartApps: RIP-independent and platform-friendly
The SmartApps VehicleWraps plug-in is the third in the new SmartApps toolset that help cut production time and costs by optimizing workflow using
existing design applications. Designed to help those who prepare files for wide format printing, SmartApps plug-ins are application-specific, operating
system independent (can be used on Macintosh® or Windows® platforms), easy to use and affordably priced. They are complementary to any wide
format RIP software – ONYX® RIP software is not required to use the plug-ins.
Availability
The SmartApps VehicleWraps plug-in will be available in May 2012 with the ability to evaluate it as a 30-day full-version trial. For more information,

ONYX Graphics, Inc. today introduced ONYX® Thrive™ workflow software, a new, scalable print production solution based on Adobe® PDF Print
Engine technology. ONYX Thrive software manages the wide format print production workflow process offering print service providers accurate,
predictable, high quality printing results, and reducing costly errors.
ONYX Thrive software is designed for service providers that want to invest in workflow software to manage their print production environment rather
than purchase separate raster image processor (RIP) products that require individual operator attention. Print service providers can feel confident
about investing in workflow software that fits the way their shops work today, with the peace of mind that comes with the ability to scale their ONYX
Thrive software as business grows.
“Print service providers tell us they need predictable and accurate reproduction of increasingly sophisticated graphic design to support new
business opportunities while utilizing their existing printer technologies,” explains Kevin Murphy, President and CEO of ONYX Graphics, Inc. “We
are pleased to offer ONYX Thrive software to meet the needs of print service providers who are looking for a high performance PDF workflow that
can support their business growth.”
Preempting unexpected results that can delay production and add costs
On a daily basis, print service providers accept digital files from their clients that are created using a variety of graphics software applications. In wide
format and specialty graphics applications, these digital files are commonly created using the latest graphic design effects and techniques and are
most often submitted as PDF, Adobe PostScript®, or EPS files. Today, these digital files are sent to a variety of RIP products in the shop that –
depending on how the file was built – can process the files in a different manner, which can deliver unexpected results. If the print doesn’t match
the client’s intent, the file must be corrected and re-run, resulting in increased labor and material costs for the shop, reduced turnaround time, and
potentially lost profit on that job.
ONYX Thrive software seamlessly handles these varied file formats and reproduces the client’s intent in an accurate, predictable manner. Print service
providers can be confident in the printed output and avoid the costs associated with handling unexpected results.
Powered by Adobe PDF Print Engine
ONYX Thrive workflow software is powered by Adobe technologies including the Adobe PDF Print Engine , a rendering engine technology that Adobe
partners – such as ONYX Graphics – use to build tailored solutions for their market segments. The Adobe PDF Print Engine enables a true end-to-end
PDF workflow from digital file submission through color management, printing and cutting.
In ONYX Thrive software, the Adobe PDF Print Engine natively renders PDF digital master files generated by any graphics authoring application,
maintaining fidelity to the creative intent across the workflow. This eliminates late-stage surprises common in the rasterization of complex graphic
design effects, including issues related to transparency layers, mixed color spaces, and spot color handling. Knowledgeable print service providers
appreciate the importance of accurate, predictable output made possible by use of PDF, the industry’s richest and most reliable imaging model.
ONYX Thrive workflow software maximizes throughput with a high performance software architecture that harnesses the scalability of the Adobe PDF
Print Engine. For example, a six-core processor computer can be maximized to simultaneously run six Adobe PDF Print Engines, even if only four printers
are being driven. The result is the ability to keep printers and cutters fed at maximum capacity.
Production Manager
Featured in ONYX Thrive software is the new Thrive Production Manager browser-based user interface that enables print service providers to submit,
control, and monitor jobs and devices from their Macintosh®, Windows® PC, or mobile device. Print service providers will no longer need to move
among several independent RIP workstations and output devices to monitor and manage production, optimizing both operator and output device
productivity.
Automation, Color and Ink Savings
ONYX Graphics is known for Quick Set automation, and ONYX Thrive software continues that tradition. Quick Sets simply define the automated steps
for jobs to follow, enabling operators to submit digital files and move on to other tasks as the files travel through the workflow unattended. Advanced
nesting enhances automation by optimizing media use and reducing waste.
ONYX Thrive software includes the ONYX Profile Generator module, featuring simple Print > Read > Next color profiling. Powerful advanced user tools
are available to control and fine tune color profiles for the most demanding clients.
Availability
ONYX Thrive workflow software will debut at the FESPA Digital 2012 exhibit being held in Barcelona from February 21-24, 2012. The product will be
available in Spring 2012. It joins the award-winning print production product line including ONYX ProductionHouse™, ONYX PosterShop®, and ONYX
RIPCenter™ software packages.
ONYX Graphics Announces SmartApps PitStop Pro Plug-in for Adobe
Acrobat Software
ONYX Graphics, Inc. today introduced the SmartApps™ PitStop Pro plug-in for Adobe® Acrobat® software, which gives users the ability to optimize
their productivity by eliminating the time-consuming steps typically taken when client PDF files contain color or font issues.
“Wide format print shops struggle with incoming PDF files that have originated from a variety of sources,” explains Danielle Mattiussi, ONYX Director of
Product Marketing. “The new SmartApps PitStop Pro plug-in gives them the ability to move to a dependable PDF workflow, regardless of the file
source. SmartApps PitStop Pro plug-in is a wide format PDF preflighting solution that catches many specific trouble areas and problems and provides
quick solutions, so print shops will no longer have to waste valuable prepress and production time managing this lack of predictability around issues
such as transparencies, color or other print related issues.”
Design applications can create uncertainty in print production due to special effects such as drop shadows, spot colors and fonts. Client files that must be
made print-ready by the print shop add time and cost to any given print job – time that can’t always be billed back to the client.
Key features
The SmartApps PitStop Pro plug-in helps fix troublesome client PDF files quickly and efficiently without ever leaving Adobe Acrobat software. Key
features are:
• In seconds, the plug-in checks all aspects of wide format PDF files to create certified print consistency.
• Includes a wide format-specific preflight checklist that creates a reliable “digital master” so PDF files print correctly, with the highest quality and optimal
printing performance.
• Automatically highlights spot color and color management issues and provides quick options for correction.
• Automatically detects file issues such as missing or bad fonts, missing bleed and more.
• Includes tools to quickly edit PDF files from inside Adobe Acrobat software without damaging the integrity of the original file.
• Action Lists that enable automation of many tedious changes to multiple PDF files, such as color conversions and adding finishing marks.
Increases productivity and reduces waste
The SmartApps PitStop Pro plug-in gives wide format print shops the ability to quickly review and resolve PDF issues and establish a predictable PDF
workflow. Users can quickly eliminate PDF color and file issues before printing, reducing costly reprints. The plug-in also offers peace-of-mind as print
shops no longer need to be concerned about the quality of incoming client PDF files, or waste time by unnecessarily preflighting incoming files.
SmartApps: RIP-independent and platform-friendly
The SmartApps PitStop Pro plug-in is the second in the new SmartApps toolset that cut production time and costs by optimizing workflow using existing
design applications. Designed to help those who prepare files for wide format printing, SmartApps plug-ins are application specific, operating system
independent (can be used on Macintosh® or Windows® platforms), easy to use and affordably priced. They are complementary to any wide format
RIP software – ONYX® RIP software is not required to use the plug-ins.
ONYX Graphics Announces Update of SmartApps Sign&Banner
Plug-in for Adobe Illustrator Software
ONYX Graphics, Inc. today announced the release of SmartApps™ Sign&Banner plug-in Version 1.1 for Adobe® Illustrator® software, which simplifies
and accelerates set-up of wide format signs and banners.
“Print shops understand time is money,” explains Danielle Mattiussi, ONYX Director of Product Marketing. “Which is why they are excited at the productivity
gains they get from using the SmartApps Sign&Banner plug-in. The return-on-investment is very compelling because, with a small investment in software,
shops have a tool that can help them significantly reduce their costs and get more work done.”
Plug-In Enhancements for Double-sided Banners
Based on customer requests, SmartApps Sign&Banner plug-in Version 1.1 includes enhancements to the bleed setup tool that dramatically reduce the
time to prepare double-sided banners. Designers can use the new Double-sided Bleed feature to specify an amount of print bleed and the plug-in
automatically matches the correct bleeds for the reverse side of double-sided banners. The tool can also account for banner poles or framing and uses
presets for automating the process for different banner types. The result is a tool that enables shops to quickly set up double-sided banners for quicker
printing and finishing.
Mac OS X Lion Compatibility
SmartApps Sign&Banner plug-in Version 1.1 also includes compatibility for Adobe Illustrator software (versions CS3, CS4, CS5 and CS5.5) running on the
new Macintosh® operating system, Mac OS® X Lion.
What People Are Saying
“In minutes with this plug-in a shop can save hours of work. The plug-in interface is simple to use, convenient and easy to understand. But most of all, it
does exactly what it promises – stops you wasting money and gives you more time to work on other jobs,” said Joël Doutrelepont, Owner, iMedias
(Liège, Belgium).
"We see that banner prep is a lot easier and faster to do in the design program than in RIP preflight programs. This plug-in saves us over 10 hours per
month in finishing costs. Considering our hourly shop rate, that's a decent chunk of change," said Michael Riley, Shop Designer, Insignia Signs (West
Carrollton, Ohio).
"I love the plug-in as it completely removes any finishing errors that occur when my employees measure where folding and grommets get placed. The
plug-in lets us do this with one click in prepress and save 10-15 minutes in finishing time per banner. The Plug-in also makes every banner that we
produce look the same every time! This is definitely one of the most useful tools that I have at my shop," said Kenny Miller, Owner, ThumbPrint Digital
Printing and Signs (Sun Valley, California).
RIP-independent and platform-friendly
The SmartApps Sign&Banner plug-in is the first in the new SmartApps toolset for creative applications. Designed to help those who prepare files for wide

ONYX Graphics Announces Plug-In for Adobe Illustrator Software
ONYX Graphics, Inc. today announced its ONYX® SmartApps™ Sign&Banner Plug-in tool for Adobe® Illustrator® software that simplifies and accelerates
set-up of wide format signs and banners. This plug-in is the first in the new ONYX SmartApps RIP-independent product line that helps print providers
and designers quickly and easily prepare files for wide format print production.
“We are excited to launch the wide format market’s first line of plug-ins for Adobe Creative Suite® software that provides specific tools for common
wide format print applications,” explains Dean Derhak, Marketing Director at ONYX Graphics. “With this and future plug-ins from ONYX Graphics,
designers and prepress operators can more quickly prepare jobs with their existing design applications.”
Key Features
With the Sign&Banner Plug-in tool, anyone designing or producing signs and banners can dramatically reduce their preparation time and reduce
mistakes in finishing. With the plug-in, shops can prepare all aspects of a sign or banner – including grommet marks, bleeds and folds – right in
Adobe Illustrator software in less than a few minutes.
Grommets: manually measuring grommets for a banner requires additional time and effort that can lead to higher production cost per banner.
Some shops use RIP software to add grommet marks, but involving printer operators in banner setup slows production time. The Sign&Banner
Plug-in enables placement of grommet data at the design stage and from within Adobe Illustrator software, saving production time and
potentially costly job re-runs.
Print bleeds: adding print bleed data (overprinting the media area) manually for banners is time-consuming. Complicated bleeds – such as
duplicate or mirror bleeds – can take time to add to an image, particularly after the design is finished. With the Sign&Banner Plug-in,
designers and print providers can prepare print bleeds automatically and overcome Illustrator’s bleed limitations.
This plug-in also offers the ability to “design-to-scale” so jobs are print-ready at the correct size.

ONYX Graphics Announces Version X10.1 Production RIP Software
ONYX Graphics, Inc. today announced version X10.1 of its market-leading production RIP products: ONYX® ProductionHouseTM, ONYX PosterShop®
and ONYX RIPCenterTM. Version X10.1 software includes tools and options that improve productivity and assures consistent print quality.
This new version includes a feature that makes it a support tool for G7® process to help users produce excellent balanced gray and color consistency
across print devices that meet G7 standards. It also offers an optional JDF module to provide workflow connectivity for those print providers using JDF
workflow components. The ability to split multi-page PDF files is also available, which optimizes production for jobs created from Adobe® Illustrator®
artboards.
“We are pleased to offer the only wide format RIP products recognized by IDEAlliance as G7 support tools,” explains Danielle Mattiussi, Director of
Product Portfolio and Business Development at ONYX Graphics. “ONYX ProductionHouse and ONYX PosterShop software users can achieve G7
Certification with their wide format devices, ensuring ONYX Graphics customers win over and impress demanding digital print buyers.”
G7 support tool
G7 is a proof-to-print process based on a set of color criteria developed to ensure digital print technology elements – RIP, printer, media and ink – can
reproduce a typical offset lithography sheet. The G7 process specifies a calibration method that helps printers reliably achieve a close “visual match”
from proof to press. Consistent and accurate proofs can reduce costs, decrease turnaround times and eliminate re-makes of a print job.
The new G7 support tool in version X10.1 helps shops achieve gray and color consistency across all of their wide and grand format printers driven by
ONYX RIP software. This tool was developed to work with CHROMiX Curve2 software, the most widely used software for performing G7 calibration.
Curve2 software is used to generate the G7 calibration targets; ONYX PosterShop and ONYX ProductionHouse software import the calculated data
and automatically set the calibration targets. This makes it much easier for print shops to achieve G7 Certification.
ONYX Graphics is the first RIP software company to integrate Curve2 software into the profiling process. For more information on Curve2 software,

JDF-enabled option
Job Definition Format (JDF) is an interface standard developed for and by the graphic arts industry to facilitate automated print workflows. This digital job
ticket can now be shared between systems automatically reducing the manual intervention that is required to move a job through the shop. It minimizes
the expense associated with errors, increasing reliability and ultimately leading to higher quality.
“JDF enhances our automation capabilities beyond Quick Sets by extending our connectivity to other JDF-enabled products,” said Mattiussi. “We are
excited to offer the JDF option and take a leading position in the growth of JDF within the wide format market.”
This feature is available as an option for ONYX PosterShop and ONYX ProductionHouse version X10.1 software.
Multi-page PDF optimizations
Due to the growing popularity of the artboards feature in Adobe Illustrator software, print shops are seeing an increase in multi-page PDF print jobs.
Using artboards gives designers the ability to work on multiple images and sizes in a single PDF file, which is faster and easier to organize. However,
most wide format RIP software does not handle these files efficiently, costing print shops time and money.
With the new multiple page PDF optimizations in version X10.1, the ONYX RIP-Queue can process each different page size and optimize page
nesting for maximum media savings. It also speeds performance since each page can be processed and sent to the printer individually, without
having to wait for the entire PDF file to be processed. This feature is included in ONYX RIPCenter, ONYX PosterShop and ONYX ProductionHouse
version X10.1 software.
Availability
Version X10.1 will be available at the end of May 2011. ONYX ProductionHouse, ONYX PosterShop and ONYX RIPCenter version X10 users that
purchased a license on April 11, 2011 or later are already licensed for version X10.1 and will be able to download the new version from
www.onyxgfx.com.
Current ONYX AdvantageTM and ONYX Premium service agreement holders, as well as customers with version X10 licenses purchased after
December 1, 2010, can obtain this major update by contacting sales@onyxgfx.com and requesting a key update.

ONYX Graphics Joins Initiative to Bring JDF Standards to Wide Format
Printing
ONYX Graphics, Inc. has joined forces with industry leaders to define open Job Definition Format (JDF) standards for the wide format printing market. JDF is a
technical interface standard developed for and by the graphic arts industry to facilitate cross-vendor print workflows.
“Today, our customers maximize productivity and quality using ONYX® Quickset automation and software tools available in every ONYX RIP product,” said
Danielle Mattiussi, Director of Product Portfolio and Business Development at ONYX Graphics. “JDF further enhances our automation capabilities by extending
our connectivity to other JDF-enabled products. This digital job ticket can now be shared between systems automatically, reducing the manual intervention
that is required to move a job through the shop. It minimizes the expense associated with errors, increasing reliability and ultimately leading to higher quality.
We are excited to be a part of the JDF initiative as it gains momentum in the wide format market.”
This initiative, under the guidance of the International Cooperation for the Integration of Processes in Prepress, Press and Postpress (CIP4) is chaired by HP,
which introduced a new certification program that enables alliance partners’ workflow products – including those from ONYX Graphics – to be “HP Certified for
Wide Format Printing JDF Exchange.” The initiative is designed to resolve interoperability shortfalls between web-to-print tools, production devices, raster image
processors and digital front ends so that they work together to streamline wide format printing workflows for increased productivity. ONYX Graphics is among
the first alliance partners to achieve certification through the program. This enables wide format print providers using ONYX Graphics production software
products to take advantage of automation tools that reduce costs and differentiate their service offerings.
ONYX Graphics has also joined the CIP4 workgroup and will release certified JDF workflow interfaces for its various production workflow products, starting
with an update to ONYX ProductionHouseTM software Version X10 early next year.
ONYX Graphics has worked closely with other JDF alliance partners including Cyrious Software, a leading provider of estimating and business management
software, to increase automation of job submission and business information. “Cyrious is very pleased to be working with ONYX Graphics, HP and the other
certified JDF partners in what is a natural next step for increasing productivity and profitability,” said Cyrious co-CEO Charlie Carter. “Being able to exchange
information between Cyrious Control, ONYX RIPs and the other JDF certified equipment and systems will sharpen the accuracy of estimating profitability,
increase the visibility and manageability of work-in-process in production, and reduce costly errors.”
ONYX Graphics Production RIP Software Supports the New PANTONE
PLUS Series
With the recent release of version X10 of production RIP software, ONYX Graphics, Inc. adds support for the new PANTONE® PLUS SERIES, the next
generation of the PANTONE MATCHING SYSTEM® and the PANTONE FASHION + HOME System Color Libraries. Users of ONYX® ProductionHouseTM,
ONYX PosterShop® and ONYX RIPCenterTM version X10 RIP software will see immediate compatibility with content creation software also using the

customers providing paper and textile print products for markets using the PANTONE FASHION + HOME System that need easy color matching to that
standard.”
Pantone is the global authority on color and provider of professional color standards for the design and print industries. With PANTONE PLUS SERIES and
PANTONE FASHION + HOME color definitions incorporated into ONYX production RIP software, operators can simply process print jobs containing named
PANTONE spot colors, and the software will automatically match output to the PANTONE colors as closely as possible. This capability extends to all printers
supported by ONYX production RIP software including CMYK, CMYKOG and RGB photo imaging print devices.
“As a global leader in color technologies, it is our philosophy and our commitment to empower our clients to become leaders in their own industries,” said Andy
Hatkoff, vice president of technology licensing and business development at Pantone. “For printers and production experts, that means having the processes to
efficiently and accurately reproduce color across a wide range of applications. We are very pleased to have had such a long-standing and rewarding
relationship with ONYX Graphics, and welcome its support of our color technology in the wide format digital printing market.”
Support of the new PANTONE PLUS SERIES and PANTONE FASHION + HOME Color Libraries saves operators time by eliminating manual input or color
definitions, thereby reducing inaccuracies in the final output and increasing efficiency of the printing process.
ONYX Proprietary Color Engine Boosts Color
Unlike other wide format RIP providers, ONYX Graphics has developed an integrated color management engine specifically designed for wide format inkjet
printing. The ONYX proprietary 32-bit floating point based color management engine includes patented black generation and gamut-maximizing technology that
takes full advantage of the full gamut of wide format inkjet printers when performing spot color matching. This provides ONYX customers with extremely easy
and accurate spot color matching with the most possible colors.
The ONYX Spot Color Reporting feature in ONYX ProductionHouse and ONYX PosterShop Version 7 and X10 packages shows users how accurately
PANTONE colors can be matched on each printer, ink and media combination. Operators can see how accurately the RIP color engine can match all
PANTONE colors before printing, providing confidence in printing and reducing do-overs.

penny!"
ONYX Graphics, Inc. today announced the availability of ONYX® PrepEdgeTM Pro software, a professional
job preparation tool designed specifically for large format workflows. ONYX PrepEdge Pro software reduces
job preparation time and media waste, and increases throughput and productivity for large format print service
providers in the prepress stage of their printing workflow.
ONYX PrepEdge Pro software highlights:
- Eliminates the need for other job preparation applications; includes all production large format tools and a PDF
editor.
- Reduces job preparation time by up to 75 percent.
- Only large format job preparation tool that runs on Macintosh® and Windows® PC platforms.
- Works with all large format RIP (raster image processor) software
Job preparation is the main bottleneck in most large format print workflows. The problems can include customer
file issues; disparate settings from using multiple content creation applications such as Adobe® Illustrator®,
CorelDRAW® or QuarkXPress®; color matching issues; and lack of tools specific to large format printing.
These problems negatively affect productivity: printer operators waste time fixing or preparing jobs instead of
printing; ink and media are wasted due to multiple test print runs; and deadlines are missed because files are
not ready or will not print.
Range of professional tools designed specifically for large format workflow
ONYX PrepEdge Pro software addresses all job preparation issues prior to print processing. It is the only job
preparation software that includes features specific to large format job preparation such as one-click grommet
placement; size, crop and positioning tools; bleed and fold tools; complex tiling and template tools; fast contour
cut path generation; and a raster image to vector tool.
ONYX PrepEdge Pro software gives users the ability to view color-accurate, on-screen proofs, and quickly
check and fix file anomalies. The built-in color correction and management tools include controls to correct
hue, saturation, brightness, contrast and color balance. It includes a simple and accurate spot color matching
function with the ability to create and save spot color libraries in addition to the on-board PANTONE®, RAL,
HKS® and industry cutting vinyl color libraries.
With ONYX PrepEdge Pro software, prepress operators can quickly and easily edit any image, text or graphic
element of a PDF file. It is the only large format job preparation software that includes a full professional PDF
editor. Shapes, lines and gradients can be manipulated, and text or fonts can be changed. Users can import
files and save the output as a PDF. Job templates, including tiling and placeholder setups, can be saved.
Increases productivity and decreases media waste
Print shop owners and their production managers can rely on ONYX PrepEdge Pro software to optimize their
large format workflow, ultimately resulting in cost savings. Integrating ONYX PrepEdge Pro software into their
workflow addresses all preflight issues prior to production and eliminates the need for print operators to master
multiple creative content applications or other job preparation applications. Because the workflow is optimized
and issues that lead to multiple test print runs (and media waste) are eliminated, shops can also see a decrease
in media usage.
Users see immediate savings
"ONYX PrepEdge Pro software really saves us a lot of time in pre and post-production with banners," said
Chris Panza, Production Manager at Image Graphics 2000, Pompano Beach, Florida. "On one job of 50
banners, it cut our time in half and saved us over five hours."
"ONYX PrepEdge Pro software has been beautiful for setting up our banners and vehicle wraps," explains Scott
Manwaring, Manager of Digital Print Services, Rainbow Sign & Banner, St George, Utah. "We took on a lot of
banner and wrap jobs in the last couple of weeks and ONYX PrepEdge Pro software worked perfectly. I quickly
removed bleed lines the customers had added, along with some bad clipping masks. It's easily saved us eight
hours of time. Before using ONYX PrepEdge Pro software, we spent a lot of time on paneled jobs going back
and forth making small changes between Illustrator software and our RIPs. ONYX PrepEdge Pro software just
cuts out so many steps. Once a job is ready, we submit it once and we're done. With ONYX PrepEdge Pro
software in our workflow we can cut days of lead-time off of our biggest jobs."
"Nothing needs to be done through Illustrator software anymore," describes Richard Nuhn, Manager of NC
Pestill's Hamilton, Ontario, grand format production location. "On banners, we get unbelievable time savings
with ONYX PrepEdge Pro software. For example, we produced two 2-foot by 10-foot banners that took us 22
minutes to prepare using Illustrator software. With ONYX PrepEdge Pro software, we produced them both in
less than five minutes. Those job preparation savings add up. What used to be a weeks-worth of job prep time
using Illustrator software, we can now do in a day using ONYX PrepEdge Pro software. More importantly for us,
job preparation isn't a bottleneck so we can do today's work today."
RIP-independent and platform-friendly

ONYX Graphics Releases ONYX Workflow Software Version 7.2
ONYX Graphics, Inc. today announced it has released Version 7.2 for its popular workflow software packages:
ONYX® ProductionHouseTM, ONYX PosterShop® and ONYX RIPCenterTM. The new features in Version 7.2
are designed to boost productivity, help realize additional cost savings, and ensure consistent output quality.
It is available now.
Extended productivity with support for additional devices
Version 7.2 extends the productivity of ONYX workflow software by adding support for new printers, cutters and
color devices.
Drivers for the following printer models have been added: Epson® GS6000, HP Designjet® L65500, Seiko
ColorPainter H-104S, Canon® iPF605 & iPF720, and Graphtec® Signjet 500.
Drivers for the following cutters have been added: Gerber® M-Series and Roland® GX Series.
Drivers for the following color devices have been added: Spectro Swing from Barberi, which supports both
sheet-fed swatches and backlit and clear film media.
New Dot Pattern Produces Smoother Images and Enables Greater Ink Cost Savings
Included in all Version 7.2 software packages is a new dot pattern, “FDRP Enhanced,” a new error diffusion dot
pattern that produces finer, smoother output, especially in printers with “fixed-dot” modes. The results are most
apparent in critical areas such as flesh tones and solid fill areas. FDRP Enhanced enables users to print at
lower resolutions, thereby using less ink without compromising image quality.
Output Quality Improvements
Several enhancements have been included in Version 7.2 to continue to meet the high quality demands of
ONYX users.
More Robust and Accurate Color
Improvements in the ONYX ICC Profile Generator increase accuracy and smoothness of grey and black
generation while improving color output and accuracy on CMYK+ printers. Version 7.2 uses innovative
dynamic ink separation technology that maximizes the use of the special printers’ inks, while still maintaining
accurate grey and spot color matching. This dynamic technology works in each print mode, so users get the
best possible color on every printer media and resolution.
New Spot Color Matching Capabilities
Version 7.2 includes support for HP Professional PANTONE® emulation technology on select HP printers.
Also included are enhanced drivers for the HP Designjet L65500, 8000s, 9000s, 10000s, Z2100, Z3100 and
Z6100 printers and HP’s proprietary spot color mapping algorithms for more accurate matches of out-of-gamut
PANTONE spot colors.
Integrated RAL and HKS color libraries for automatic professional color standards matching are now standard.
In addition, the new PANTONE Goe® uncoated colors have been added to the existing full PANTONE color
matching library. Version 7.2 also includes support for automatic spot color matching in color blends, for easy
and accurate color matching of gradient logos and graphics.
Additional Updates
The following additional updates and enhancements are included in Version 7.2:
• Fixes for PDF transparencies and other RIP file issues
• Improved cut contour speed and accuracy
• Multi-select jobs added to Layout
• Removed 5,000,000 halftone line limit on PDF/EPS files
• Consistent application of International Color Consortium® (ICC) profiles embedded in PDF 1.7 files
• Localization and translation updates
ONYX Workflow Software Achieves G7 Certification Level 1 for Press
Proofing Systems
Salt Lake City, UT - May 21, 2008 - ONYX Graphics Inc., a leader in wide format digital printing solutions, today
announced that ONYX® workflow software products can be used to produce press proof output that complies
with G7® Certification Level 1 standards. G7 is a proof-to-print process based on a set of color criteria
developed to ensure digital print technology elements - RIP, printer, media and ink - can reproduce a typical
offset lithography sheet. Certification ensures users can confidently use digital press proofs with the assurance
of matching Standard Web Offset Printing (SWOP®) criteria.
The certification was awarded to ONYX ProductionHouseTM software driving the Epson Stylus® Pro 11880
printer with Epson® Premium Luster Photo Paper 260g and Epson Ultrachrome® Ink. The certification
standards measure color reproduction through the use of International Color Consortium® (ICC) color matching
profiles for primary and secondary colors and specific grey values. The ICC profile created in ONYX Profile
Generator - a key element available only in ONYX ProductionHouse software - exceeded all testing standards
and achieved a certification category of GRACoL® Grade 1, the highest available (to view a copy of the
certificate detailing the measured values, visit www.onyxgfx.com).
"This certification reinforces our proof-of-concept that ONYX Profile Generator is a high quality, extremely
accurate tool for generating ICC profiles, giving users tremendous confidence that their output will be
on-target," said Jon Reese, Director of Marketing for ONYX Graphics, Inc. "Given a similar starting point with
paper white point values and ink gamuts, it’s feasible that ONYX Profile Generator can create proof-worthy
prints using other printer hardware and inks. Users don’t have to spend thousands of dollars on a separate
color management system when the capability already exists in ONYX ProductionHouse software."
Certification was awarded to this specific combination of ONYX workflow software and Epson hardware, ink
and media. The ICC profile that earned certification can be used with any ONYX workflow software product
including ONYX ProductionHouse, ONYX PosterShop®, ONYX RIPCenterTM and ONYX GamaPrint TM
software. The ICC profile, as well as the printer driver with the profile, is available on request from ONYX
Graphics.
The G7 process specifies a simple calibration method that helps printers reliably achieve a close “visual match”
from proof to press. Consistent and accurate proofs can reduce costs, decrease turnaround times and
eliminate re-makes of a print job. Commercial printers that employ G7 certified systems can develop internal
guidelines for reliable process controls and assure print predictability before going on press. Print buyers can
be assured of proof accuracy when working with a G7 certified supplier.

before printing; adjust ink fill behind or over an image area; control the ink fill areas; select background colors
with one click; and save settings and apply them to any Quick Set for full automation of future print jobs.
Included are workflow sets for a variety of ink and printer types:
White Ink Workflow: White ink printing capability opens up new revenue opportunities for large format service
bureaus by enabling printing on colored or clear surfaces. With white ink, users can print into colored surfaces
including metal, vinyl, wood, tile and fabric. By applying a flood of white ink, clear materials can be used to
create backlit images and double-sided view panes used in glass doors and windows. It can also be used to
print onto a glass mirror surface.
Spot Ink Tool in Preflight: This new quick and easy feature enables the operator to select the media color and
designate which areas will receive the spot ink, while working in the Preflight screen. Additional information
such as fill amount and spread can also be selected. This new process eliminates the need for the designer to
include a separate channel in the authoring program.
Spot Layer Tool for Multi-Print Printers: For printers that can rewind and reprint, this toolset enables users to
set up custom layers to create print effects such as double-sided images on clear materials and richly
colored overprints.
