Mutoh America Inc., a leading manufacturer of wide-format printers, participated in process control training at SGIA’s Color Management Boot Camp.
SGIA brought eager business owners and production personnel together for the two-day workshop at their headquarters in Fairfax, Virginia on
November 8th and 9th.
During the Workshop, attendees learned about color theory and principles, color management and process control. They also became familiar with
software and new products geared towards color.
Mutoh participated in the “Enhance Your Image, Reduce Your Costs” seminar, which focuses on Mutoh’s exclusive ColorVerify process control systems.
Using the Mutoh ValueJet 1624-64” Eco-solvent printer and patented SpectroVue VM-10 spectrophotometer, students learned the value of process
control and how easy it is to implement into their workflow.
ColorVerify is an on-board system that is free to ValueJet 1324, 1624, 1638 and 1608HS printer users. When used in conjunction with Mutoh’s
SpectroVue VM-10 spectrophotometer it provides a quick check to see if color output matches the stored setting. The system is simple-to-use
and minimizes wasted time, media and ink.
“The Workshop was an exciting and informative experience for us,” shares Gary Rudnick, Director of Sales for Mutoh America Inc. “It’s always
a pleasure to speak to the print community about our innovative products and services, especially when it comes to something so important like
process control. The workshop also gave us a chance to learn what print service providers look for in a product, allowing us to continually grow
and shape our company with the customer’s needs in mind.”
Mutoh Makes Purchasing New Technology Easy with Trade-Up Program
Mutoh America Inc., a leading manufacturer of wide-format printers, announces the Trade-Up printer program. Customers can now trade in any brand
printer over 30 inches wide and receive incentives to purchase a new printer from Mutoh.
Program incentives include up to $6,000 off the purchase price of a ValueJet 1624-64” or ValueJet 1324-54” printer. Plus, customers can also take
advantage of leasing options from Mutoh Financial Services and end of year tax incentives.
Mutoh designed the program with customers in mind, allowing wide-format printer owners an easy way to access newer technology without breaking
the bank. Mutoh hopes that everyone looking to Trade-Up to newer, faster and more reliable technology will benefit from this offer.
“Mutoh has launched several new printers this year and we want people to take advantage of these newer technologies,” shares Brian Phipps,
General Manager of Mutoh America Inc. “We know that times are tough, so we wanted to create a lucrative incentive for our loyal Mutoh customers
and those that want to improve their printing capability and keep up with innovative products.”
The Trade-Up program is only available until December 31, 2011 and valid only on the new VJ1324 and VJ1624 printer models.
This program is not being offered in conjunction with any other Mutoh programs. Shipping, installation, training and ink are available, but not included
with the Trade-Up program.
Mutoh America, Inc., a leading manufacturer of wide-format printers, will launch the new ValueJet 1638-64” high production Eco-solvent printer at the
SGIA trade show. The 1638 is Mutoh’s fastest printer with print speeds up to an incredible 545 square feet per hour.
The new addition to the Mutoh ValueJet family will replace the previous ValueJet 1618-64” printer. The 1638 includes a staggered dual head print
technology that allows users to print jobs that typically call for the production capacity of two or more printers.
The 1638 prints durable graphics on coated and uncoated roll-to-roll substrates. Mutoh’s SpectroVue VM-10 spectrophotometer can be equipped to
utilize the on-board and Internet based ColorVerify process control systems, including an on-printer ICC profile creation.
Standard on all ValueJets, the 1638 includes Mutoh’s i2: Intelligent Interweave print technique that lays down the four color (CMYK) Eco-solvent inks in
a wave pattern, virtually eliminating banding.
Mutoh will be showcasing the new ValueJet 1638 among the rest of the ValueJet line in booth number 2133.
Mutoh Launches ValueJet 1204GA at SGIA Booth #2133
Mutoh America, Inc., a leading manufacturer of wide-format printers, will launch the new ValueJet 1204GA Eco-solvent printer at the SGIA trade
show. The 1204GA is designed to print on Mutoh’s Ready2Print pre-grommeted and pre-welded banner material.
A first of its kind in the industry, the new printer will reduce time and save money by eliminating the manual grommet and hemming stages of banner
production.
“The new ValueJet 1204GA is going to transform the way banners are made today,” shares Brian Phipps, General Manager of Mutoh America, Inc.
“Mutoh focuses on new printer innovations with the customer in mind. The 1204GA will allow users to create quick print jobs at an affordable price.”
The 1204GA prints on Mutoh’s Ready2Print 24”, 36”, 48” x 72’ banner material at speeds up to 140 sqft/hr. By printing on both pre-grommeted and a
variety of roll-to-roll media types, the printer is a perfect fit for traditional sign shops, retailers, quick printers and distributors.
Attendees are welcome to visit Mutoh’s booth, #2133, from October 19th through 21st, for printing demonstrations and banner personalization.
Mutoh America, Inc. announced its ColorVerify Pro, powered by ColorMetrix, process control system at this year’s Graph Expo. ColorVerify Pro is an
Internet based system that is designed to enhance your image and reduce your costs. Graph Expo was held from September 11th through 14th in
Chicago, Illinois.
ColorVerify Pro incorporates the use of Mutoh’s SpectroVUE VM-10 on-printer spectrophotometer. The SpectroVUE comes standard with Mutoh’s
ValueJet 1608HS Hybrid printer, and can be equipped to the new ValueJet 1324 and 1624 printers.
How it works:
Users create a ‘baseline’ of desired color per media type that’s stored in the printer. Before each print job, users print out a color strip of ‘jellybeans’
which the SpectroVUE then reads and compares to the previously stored baseline. ColorVerify Pro tells users if their current print matches their baseline
with a “pass” or “fail” notice. The system allows users to track color differentiations over time and provides troubleshooting help if colors do not match.
“Mutoh provided daily demonstrations of the new ColorVerify Pro service at Graph Expo, and the response was great,” shares Gary Rudnick, Director of
Sales. “ColorVerify Pro is a simple, easy to use tool that makes process control simple for the average user. Mutoh is the first in the industry to
actually incorporate process control into the printer and a database to store the information.”
Mutoh will be showcasing the complete ColorVerify Pro system this year at SGIA in New Orleans from October 19th through 21st, booth #2133.
Mutoh and Avery Dennison team-up to hold three more car wrap classes throughout the United States this year. Classes begin at $399 and all students

“Over my 15-year career, I have wrapped more than 2,500 vehicles. I developed my Universal Graphics Installation System as a result of that experience.
UGIS is a fluid, easy-to-learn installation system that reduces mistakes and ensures quality, resulting in a significantly lower install times,” shares
Pate.
The workshop will include a 2 day class (with optional 3rd day certification exam) that will focus on properties of the film, recessed areas, proper tool use,
tips and tricks and cleaning of the wrap process.

Enhance Your Image and Reduce Your Costs with Mutoh ColorVerify
Mutoh, an industry leader in wide-format printers, announces the launch of Mutoh ColorVerify, an on-printer color checking system, using Mutoh’s
SpectroVue VM-10 spectrophotometer. The SpectroVue can be equipped to the new ValueJet 1324 and 1624 printers, and comes standard with the
ValueJet 1608 Hybrid printer.
ColorVerify is a quick and easy way to save time and money by verifying the printer’s color output before running a print job. Mutoh’s ColorVerify service
provides a check for color ‘drift’ before it results in rejected jobs. The process takes just a few minutes to complete and can be done without sheeting
off, so it fits into the operator’s workflow.
How it works: When the SpectroVue option is added to a new ValueJet 1324 or 1624 printer, it automatically activates Mutoh’s free ColorVerify service.
With this service, the operator simply prints the built-in ColorVerify Color Check test strip at the beginning of a print run and stores the measured values
as a “baseline” in the printer’s on-board nonvolatile memory. Then, at any point throughout the print run, the operator can reprint the test strip and re-
measure. The printer will analyze the measured values, compare them to the baseline values, and report how much color variation has occurred
between the current print and the baseline measurement.
In addition to checking for color drift, ColorVerify also notifies the operator if the printer is reproducing color consistently across the full platen width,
which is critical when printing multi-panel jobs such as billboards, tradeshow murals and vehicle wraps.
“Mutoh is the first in its industry to provide customers with an effortless and accurate color verification system,” shares Brian Phipps, General Manager of
Mutoh America Inc. “In this economy, maximizing color efficiency is critical. ColorVerify quickly alerts the operator if something within the production
workflow has changed that could impact color accuracy. Process control has been a relatively unaddressed issue until now.”
Faster and more efficient than a manually operated spectrophotometer, the SpectroVue provides accurate and consistent color measurements. The
SpectroVue mounts directly to the side of the print head and takes its measurements from the same sample spot every time a ColorVerify Color Check
test strip is run.
The ValueJet 1324-54” and 1624-64” are Mutoh America’s newest additions to the ValueJet printer line. Not only can they be equipped with the
SpectroVue spectrophotometer, but they offer an automatic sheet off function, adaptation to different ink cartridge sizes and print at blazing
speeds (up to 313 sq/ft per hour on the 1624).

today a partnership in which Mutoh will serve as an associate sponsor of RWR in the 2010 NASCAR Nationwide Series.
As part of that agreement, the RWR facility currently houses Mutoh’s ValueJet 1614 Printer—“The Wrappers
Choice”—the Mutoh SC PRO Cutter and a Royal Sovereign Laminator.
Noted RWR team owner, Rusty Wallace, "With the 2010 race season in full swing, Mutoh’s ValueJet has played

we’re hoping that 2010 will be a record breaking year for our team. We’re proud to be using Mutoh’s ValueJet
1614 printer and SC PRO Cutter to produce graphics for our race cars.”
With 55 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series wins under his belt, Wallace knows first-hand what it takes to be successful
on the racetrack. As owner of RWR, he has put this knowledge to work even further. "Ensuring that our
sponsors’ logos look their best is extremely important to us," said Wallace. "We know and trust Mutoh. With the
prints produced by the ValueJet 1614, the colors and logos on cars really pop."
“Rusty first approached me after seeing our printer in West Coast Customs booth at the SEMA Show in Las
Vegas last year. He was looking for a solution to wrap his race cars fast, without failure and they needed to look
great. After visiting Mutoh America Headquarters he chose our most popular printer for producing wraps, the
ValueJet 1614. This is going to be a great relationship and we look forward to working with Rusty and his team
for many years ahead,” said Brian Phipps, Mutoh’s General Manager.

Mutoh’s Hands-On School of Wrap in Maryland a Success!
Mutoh’s recently concluded “School of Wrap” class in Elkridge, MD., proved to be a big success for students.
The classes were held June 7th – 8th (basic class) and June 9th (advanced class) at the SEAL/Neschen Americas.
A few eager to learn students who signed up for the intermediate class adjusted their schedules to stay and
attend the advanced class to become skilled at additional techniques.
The opportunity to train under the guidance of acclaimed graphic installer, Justin Pate, being taught his exclusive
UGIS (Universal graphic installation system) a more efficient, effective and profitable way to wrap vehicles,
proved a valuable experience for the students.
Radim Horak of KDF Reprographics Inc. enrolled in the class, knowing he would receive an in depth
understanding of graphic installation mechanics that would enable him to gain a competitive advantage in the
vehicle wrap industry. "Mutoh's car wrap training class is top notch! Justin's techniques and approach to car
wraps definitely improved my abilities. The classes were worth every penny," said Horak.
Elmer Martinez of GMedia Wraps also attended the course and was very impressed with Justin’s techniques
of UGIS: a fluid, easy-to-learn platform. He is sure the skills he learned will result in higher profits for his business
in the near future.
“The class far exceeded my expectations from the get go. Justin took the time to explain materials, tools,
vendors, techniques and more. He went over his UGIS technique in detail, with numerous visual and hands-on
examples. I couldn’t believe that this system hadn’t been “required teaching” by the major material vendors,” said
Martinez.
Mutoh America Inc. will hold the next Mutoh “Hands On School of Wrap” class at Graphics One, LLC in Burbank,
CA August 16th and 17th/Intermediate class and August 18th/Advanced class.

guarantees their performance in Mutoh America’s ValueJet Hybrid 1608-64" printer with MUBIO Inks. MUBIO
Ink is the first inkjet ink to be recognized by the EPA under their Design for the Environment (DfE) initiative,
composed of more than 80% renewable resources and developed specifically for the demands of wide format
industrial printing.
MUBIO Ink has the ability to print onto a wide variety of substrates while protecting the environment and safe

layer and contain no known human carcinogens.
3M’s products have been designed and engineered from the ground up to work consistently and reliably with

ensure they work with all recommended system components. You can rely on 3M for quality and durability.
3M’s qualified media portfolio incorporates a broad range of products including: Controltac, Controltac with
Comply Adhesive, Scotchcal Graphic Films and Scotchlite Reflective Graphic Films. These products are
developed, tested and manufactured for optimal compatibility and performance.
Materials have different chemistries that must work together for a successful application, they can also act
differently within the printer handling and transport. Failure at any point presents a printer compatibility issue
and a change in chemistry can affect the physical properties. 3M takes great care and pride in the
development and execution of the test process protocols:
- Test for ink adhesion, color density and gloss.
- Test all overlaminate or clear coat options for performance on printed samples.
- Test for proper liner release and dimensional stability after printing.
- Test for adhesion of printed film samples to the recommended substrates.
- Test for durability using indoor accelerated weathering and actual outdoor weathering for each film and substrate,
performed in using a variety of temperature and humidity extremes.
To qualify for the 3M Performance Guarantee, graphics must be installed according to 3M recommendations.
The replacement cost of 3M materials only is covered; the guarantee does not warranty image fading, cracking,
peeling or any other performance issues. The 3M Performance Guarantee warrants the following for 3M Graphic
Films and Graphic Protection: physical defects, manufacturing defects, printing and cutting defects, stated
warranted durability, fitness for use, adhesive to specified substrates, and removal for removable/changeable films.
The duration of any given performance guarantee varies according to the material combinations and applications
as detailed in 3M Product and Instruction Bulletins which are available on 3M’s website, www.3Mgraphics.com.

"The benefits of being able to print direct to rigid substrates and roll-to-roll have been amazing! I don’t know if I

corrugated plastic and banner material, it is easy to flip materials and the color looks fabulous! This printer will
definitely sell itself," Kubalak said.
Sign Here of TN has over 29 years experience in the sign and woodworking industry. Primarily their work
consisted of vinyl products for real estate, and quick turn around projects such as sponsor signs.
"The sheer speed of the ValueJet 1608 printer and the capacity to manipulate files save so much time! The

December, 2007 | Houston, TX - Colortech Direct, located in Houston, Texas, formerly known as Colortech
Printing, has now expanded their production capabilities to include signage, banners, vehicle graphics and
more, since the recent addition of the Mutoh Spitfire Extreme Printer. The first Spitfire Extreme to be installed
in the US has produced high output for Colortech Direct.
"The Mutoh Spitfire Extreme has been a valued addition to our production capabilities. We are very satisfied
with our decision and will continue to incorporate Mutoh products in our future purchases," said Shawna Harris,
Operations Manager for Colortech.
Colortech has been in the large format digital printing industry for 8 years, but the acquisition of the Spitfire
Extreme has allowed a more diversified spectrum of jobs, such as wrapping a Volkswagen Beetle and matching
trailer for That Chic Boutique, conference signage for Shell Oil, as well as banners, posters and large photo-
quality graphics for several mega-churches.
"The Spitfire is fast, efficient and very reliable. I don't feel the need to "baby-sit" each job now. I can start
multiple jobs, each with different specifications, and feel confident they will come out as expected," said
Harris.
The machine is very user friendly. Colortech’s production team members who have had little to no experience
with large format machines can easily be trained to perform basic tasks. Daily and weekly maintenance is
effortless.
"Since we have expanded our breadth of services beyond the realm of printing solutions, we decided to
change our name to Colortech Direct to stay aligned with our changing direction effective December 1st,"
said Mike Harris. "We are very proud of our latest addition, most importantly, the high quality of work produced
using Mutoh’s Intelligent Interweave Print Technology that consistently prints bold vibrant colors. We are
excited to be the first to bring this machine and the use of eco-friendly inks to the United States!"

Blizzard 90, offering a printing width of 87.8 inches.
"Our new Blizzard printers are specifically targeted at sign shops looking for a flexible machine capable of speeds
up to 860 square feet an hour, as well as top quality print work, says Randy Rickert, Director of Sales, Service
and Marketing.
Mutoh’s Blizzard series printers print directly onto standard available uncoated vinyl, banner and soft signage.

capacity while gaining flexibility. Application possibilities encompass corporate signs, stage and window graphics,
backlit box signage, construction announcements, vehicle graphics, indoor graphics such as photo blow ups,

will resist cleaners, detergents and commercially available degreaser’s as good as true solvent printer inks and
offers an outdoor durability on compatible media up to 3 years without lamination. For heavy duty applications
where mechanical stress is involved (floor & vehicle graphics), lamination is required. The Mutoh mild-solvent inks

Solvent Ultra inks, for users wanting to use the printer in regular office environments without forced ventilation.
The Blizzard features two head sets in a micro-staggered layout (one color per head), allowing both speed
oriented production work at impeccable print quality and top quality print work. Each of the eight incorporated

straight lines used in traditional printing practices. This approach will drastically reduce or even eliminate typical
inkjet printing artifacts such as horizontal banding, step mismatch banding, ink mottle, etc. In short, it will allow
bi-directional printing of all images, even the most critical jobs.
The Intelligent Interweaving print technology enables a constant print quality, which apart from that is easily
reproducible by the machine operator. Moreover, i² defines guaranteed output quality, away from print passes
and print resolutions.
