Print Solution
MACtac® and Nazdar® announce a newly available screen print warranty featuring MACtac’s recently introduced REBEL™ multi-print media and Nazdar’s

The warranty is part of MACtac’s customer-favorite Open-Image Warranty™ program, which covers many combinations of approved printer, ink and
laminate or clear coat, used with MACtac graphic media.
The joint warranty agreement has been initiated to give screen printers and end-users both complete assurance that finished graphics manufactured by
MACtac and printed with Nazdar 3500 Series Screen inks will perform as intended, meeting needed durability requirements and featuring image
coloration in its truest form.
“MACtac’s Open-Image Warranty is a great way to ensure our customers that our products meet the demands of today’s marketplace,” stated Jeff

Now for Commercial Carpet Applications, MACtac Changes Standard
Roll Size for IMAGin JT5828HTO High-Tack Media
MACtac® Graphic Products announces the addition of IMAGin® JT5828HTO, an intermediate high-tack media, to its floor graphics product portfolio.
IMAGin JT5828HTO is an easy-to-print, white opaque digital vinyl commonly used for short-term promotions and indoor or outdoor advertising, including
tri-vision or flat billboards and other flat or slightly curved surfaces. Designed to bond well and cleanly remove from its intended applications, IMAGin
JT5828HTO is ideal for short-napped commercial carpet applications.
As a new addition to the floor graphics media portfolio, the roll size of IMAGin JT5828HTO is changing to 54 inches by 164 feet, from the current 60-inch by
328-foot and 164-foot rolls, to better match the specifications of MACtac’s floor graphics laminates.
“Now part of MACtac’s floor graphics media solutions, IMAGin JT5828HTO is an excellent carpet graphics media, although it is still strongly recommended
for low-surface energy substrates,” stated Mary Ann Kucera, marketing manager, MACtac Graphic Products. “The new width better matches
our PERMACOLOR® floor graphics laminates IP6200, PF6300, PF6400, and PF6500,” Kucera added.
MACtac’s IMAGin JT5828HTO is a 3.7-mil matte white, soft-calendered PVC film. Featuring an 86# kraft liner, it offers a high-tack, permanent, opaque
acrylic pressure-sensitive adhesive. IMAGin JT5828HTO is intended for wide-format, eco-solvent, solvent-based, and UV-cured inkjet printing.
The current roll size of IMAGin JT5828HTO will be discontinued and inventory transitioned to the 54-inch by 164-foot rolls in late February.

MACtac® Expands Line of Overlaminate Options for Indoor Floor Graphics
For years, MACtac® Graphic Products has provided its customers with extensive media and overlaminating film
combinations for producing great looking, high-performing floor graphics. Broadening the array of available solutions,
MACtac adds three new PERMACOLOR® overlaminates – each specifically designed to meet varying durability
requirements.
In response to the recent increase in customers’ price-conscience purchasing decisions, MACtac has added
two indoor floor graphic products to its line of PERMACOLOR PermaFlex® overlaminates, PF6400 and PF6500.
Designed for short-term applications such as some retail, event or tradeshow promotions, MACtac’s new
PERMACOLOR PermaFlex PF6400 not only protects and enhances printed floor graphics, but is also available
at an attractive price. PERMACOLOR PermaFlex PF6400 is a 3.75-mil clear, textured polyolefin film featuring a
glossy finish that helps eliminate glare and provides a clear view of the printed graphic.
For medium-term applications, the new PERMACOLOR PermaFlex PF6500 textured overlaminate offers superior
scuff resistance and image clarity. With durability of up to three months, this 4.3-mil clear PVC intermediate
laminate is great for indoor point-of-purchase floor graphic applications like seasonal retail signage promotions.
Finally, MACtac’s trusted PERMACOLOR RAYZor™ Gloss LF3640 -- a customer favorite for window film and
vehicle wrap applications -- was recently approved for long-term indoor floor graphics (up to one year durability).
The 1.5-mil clear gloss cast PVC film answers customer demand for a crisp high-gloss finish with slip resistance.
It offers superior graphic protection and added ease of installation.
"The new additions to MACtac’s PERMACOLOR line of pressure-sensitive overlaminates give printers a
widened selection of overlaminate film solutions to choose from, no matter the project’s specifications," said
Mary Ann Kucera, marketing manager, MACtac Graphic Products. "Until now, most of our textured laminates
were designed for high-end applications such as retail and point-of-purchase displays, but customers need to
distinguish themselves through creative and unique advertising and promotion – and floor graphics are one way
they can stand out.”
Each new PERMACOLOR overlaminate has a clear acrylic permanent adhesive and has been tested and is
rated for slip resistance based on the ASTM C-1028 test method. In addition to their use as overlaminates for
floor graphics, the laminates can also be used to protect printed graphics for wall murals, tradeshow and
promotional displays and retail advertising, ensuring all performance and safety needs are met at a competitive
price.
MACtac Expands Popular Line of Bubble-Free Digital Media
To accommodate the growing interest from printers and installers for large, seamless vinyl wraps, as well as the
existing need for smaller vinyl widths for narrow printers and smaller-scale jobs, MACtac® Graphic Products has
added two new widths to its IMAGin® B-free® PRO series. This popular line of bubble-free digital media is now
available in 30" x 150' and 60" x 150' roll sizes.
Designed for creating premium-quality vehicle, fleet and marine graphics, IMAGin B-free PRO is a 2.1-mil, high-
gloss, ultra-white vinyl that enables excellent color reproduction. It features a robust, high-tack adhesive, which
quickly builds to a strong bond, making it ideal for experienced installers who require an aggressive set-up for
fast turnaround time on installations. MACtac's patented bubble-free, air-egress technology allows for smooth,
wrinkle-free application of graphics, offering straight line air flow in multiple directions with no visible texture in
the facestock.
"IMAGin B-free PRO has been a favorite with high-volume installers who need a vinyl that provides a paint-like
finish and quick, bubble-free installation," said Mary Ann Kucera, marketing manager, MACtac Graphic Products.
"Our new 30- and 60-inch widths allow us to enhance our customer favored line to better accommodate the
needs of fleet printers and those with 30-inch digital printers who produce graphics for partial wraps and smaller
projects."
Along with aggressive performance, IMAGin B-free PRO offers excellent conformability and repositionability.
The permanent opaque acrylic adhesive prevents vehicle paint from causing graphic color shift and works in
conjunction with MACtac's omni-directional B-free air-egress system. With an industry-leading outdoor durability
of 10 years, IMAGin B-free PRO comes with a 80# polycoated layflat liner, which contributes to the vinyl's
superior printability.
"Our industry-renowned ultra-white base provides graphics with more true, vibrant colors and the highest gloss
levels in the market," Kucera added. "No matter what the customer's application, the graphic will be brilliant.
Also, the air-egress pattern of this vinyl is completely invisible, creating no checks or pebble patterns to mar
the application or the customer's art."
When paired with MACtac's PERMACOLOR® RAYZor™ premium high-gloss or true matte overlaminates, IMAGin
B-free PRO is included in MACtac's Open-Image Warranty™ Program.

MACtac Application Development Team Delivers Solutions Answering
Industry’s Toughest Challenges
Leveraging its industry longevity and research expertise, MACtac is opening the door to the development of
exciting new innovations with its recently formalized Application Development Team. The Application
Development Team was assembled to work collaboratively with customers to provide product and process
solutions for the industries MACtac serves, including the labels and labeling industry, which often presents
extremely tough challenges.
MACtac has dedicated the resources, talent and equipment necessary to support the team, which is composed
of professionals with extensive experience in several key manufacturing disciplines, as well as company executives.
For customers, working with the Application Development Team is comparable to working with a personalized
Research and Development (R&D) department that offers a unique margin of difference through new and
refined solutions. The team’s focus is to help customers improve their product portfolios and process
management activities by acting as a true R&D partner. As various markets within the pressure-sensitive
adhesive industry continue to evolve, finding innovative new approaches will allow MACtac’s customers to
better adapt to the changes.
"With the creation of the Application Development Team, MACtac is reinforcing its dedication to our customers
and its commitment to delivering to the industry the most effective solutions for the toughest challenges," said
Ed LaForge, vice president of marketing, MACtac North America.
Working collaboratively, the Application Development Team applies the expertise of its members to evaluate
the specific needs and unique challenges voiced by customers to determine whether a solution can be
developed. If a solution can be developed, the team, which meets four out of five days a week, immediately
begins solution development. For challenges that, at present, can’t be met, the team communicates with
customers within a few days to recommend an alternative solution.
"The Application Development Team has been a great resource for our customers, helping them meet some
of their longest-standing business challenges," said Mark Tangry, vice president of sales, MACtac North
America. "The sales force is committed to continuing to work with customers to help them address their unique
challenges and on finding unique applications to address industry-wide issues."
Already recognized as an industry innovator, MACtac approaches the industry’s challenges as opportunities
to reach beyond traditional solutions to create the ‘only’ solution. "We’re redefining traditional product
development," LaForge said. "Our Application Development Team thrives on the unique, so the larger and
more complex the challenge, the better."
Opening the door to untapped advertising space, MACtac, a global supplier of pressure-sensitive adhesive
products, is launching a new product designed specifically to answer the industry’s call for cost-effective,
short-term concrete floor graphics. StreetRap, MACtac’s latest offering to graphics suppliers, delivers the
perfect short-term advertising and promotions vehicle for retailers, schools, public buildings, sports and other
entertainment venues, and is ideal for outdoor events, grand openings and even plant safety messages.
Featuring a 3.4-mil construction, StreetRap’s aggressive high-tack adhesive was designed for short-term
applications to unsealed, outdoor, pedestrian concrete, asphalt or cinder block surfaces, but is also great for
indoor concrete graphics, such as tradeshow or convention center floors or selected smooth to slightly rough
wall surfaces.
"Both indoor and outdoor floor graphics are a creative way to tap into typically unused spaces and offer an
eye-catching vehicle for capturing the public’s attention; however, with recent trends in outdoor advertising,
from mass transit to billboard to unique point-of-purchase, the benefit of StreetRap for these types of
applications are endless," said Jeff Stadelman, MACtac Graphic Products.
"StreetRap is extremely printer friendly and has just the right amount of adhesion to both low- and high-energy
surfaces. It was developed to greatly expand the graphical advertising possibilities across a number of industries
and is the ideal solution for high-impact outdoor applications," Stadelman added.
Featured with MACtac’s PERMACOLOR® PF6300 - a durable, slip-resistant 5.0-mil clear overlaminating film -
the StreetRap system is easy to apply and remove from properly prepared surfaces. The vinyl and overlaminate
combination meets various public safety requirements, including the ASTM D-2407 Static Coefficient of Friction
test.
The inclusion of the PERMACOLOR overlaminate provides further graphic protection from scratching, tearing
and UV light, which can cause colors to fade, and helps to eliminate glare. StreetRap offers a white, opaque
facestock with a matte finish for bright, colorful images.
"StreetRap is the perfect solution for unique indoor and outdoor concrete floor, and to some extent, concrete
and cinder block wall graphic applications," Stadelman said. "Through the combination of facestock, adhesive
and overlaminate, MACtac’s aggressive, slip-resistant StreetRap delivers one of the most successful, cost-
effective products on the market."
CBS Outdoor Approves MACtac for Transit Applications
Stow, Ohio - June 19, 2008 - MACtac is sending messages to the masses through a recent product specification
with major media outlet, CBS Outdoor. CBS has approved MACtac Graphic Products’ IMAGin digiTrans, a
bright, white digital vinyl developed specifically for transit applications, as a choice for its city transit graphics.
With the approval, MACtac’s IMAGin digiTrans can be used by any printer conducting business with CBS to
create graphics for city buses, trains, subways and other forms of transit advertising.
"The market for transit advertising is dynamic and vinyl graphic applications are a trusted, reliable form of transit
media," said Mary Ann Kucera, MACtac Graphic Products. "For such large scale advertising and promotional
campaigns, it is critical that the vinyl applied will bond quickly to the vehicle, stay in place for its intended
length of time, and remove easily when it is necessary to remove and replace the graphic."
Given that transit applications are generally short-term, the stand-out benefit to the adhesive component of
IMAGin digiTrans is the ideal combination between a strong bond and the ease of removal required to service
the transit graphics industry. Specially-engineered with excellent adhesion properties, the product’s opaque,
semi-permanent adhesive is comprised of properties to offer both immediate bonding, ease of removability and
a uniform appearance.
"The range of tolerance for adhesive performance in transit applications is very precise, which is why the precise
adhesive formulation is so important for this type of application - especially with the challenging environment
faced by city transit," Kucera said. "IMAGin digiTrans’ approval by CBS marks another step in MACtac’s
development and delivery of high quality products for tough end-use applications."
IMAGin digiTrans boasts a jet black adhesive for desired opacity, as well as a product signature for identification
purposes as MACtac is the only supplier to offer a black transit graphic adhesive. IMAGin digiTrans features a
4.0-mil bright, white face and gloss finish delivering superior printability and color fidelity for exceptional image
definition and clarity. It is available on a 74# kraft liner and offers an outdoor durability of up to 2 years.
MACtac Announces Permacolor Enhancer 6300 Series as Latest
Edition to Overlaminates Line
Stow, OH - June 10, 2008 - MACtac Graphic Products has launched its Enhancer 6300 Series of overlaminates
under its Permacolor line where it will continue to gain exposure for its unique, metallic properties and ability to
transform a standard printed image into an exceptionally eye-catching finished result.
A recent addition to MACtac’s product line-up, Permacolor Enhancer 6300 Series is growing in popularity and
demand and has already established a base for luminous graphics in a market fairly new to this concept.
Designed to give a sparkling metallic look to digitally printed and cut vinyl graphics, it is the latest edition to
MACtac’s Permacolor line of overlaminates, which also includes the industry-renowned Permacolor RAYZor
(LF3640) 1.5-mil extremely high gloss cast overlaminate and the newly introduced Permacolor Matte RAYZor
(LF3630) 1.5-mil matte cast laminate.
"The Permacolor Enhancer 6300 Series was developed to create a brilliant, high-definition new look for
graphics that hasn’t been seen in the industry before," said Rick Moore, MACtac Graphic Products. "Our
Permacolor line offers the broadest, most advanced range of finishes in the industry so it made sense to
incorporate the Enhancers 6300 Series. The Permacolor Enhancer 6300 Series is quickly and enthusiastically
being adopted by customers not only because of the metallic finish, but also because it is creating new
opportunities for them to differentiate themselves and develop revenue streams."
Permacolor Enhancer 6300 Series accents wide-format digital prints to create a metallic effect on vehicle
graphics and point-of-purchase displays. In addition to adding a unique look to wide-format graphics, the
Enhancer 6300 Series can be used over colored opaque vinyl films allowing the sign maker to offer twice the
opaque vinyl colors.
Available in 2.5-mil crystal and 3.0-mil silver and prism metallic flake options, the cast Permacolor Enhancer
Series is conformable over curves and offers up to five years outdoor durability. With a flexible list of uses and
effects, the product is ideal for a variety of markets, including automotive, motorsports, marine and P-O-P
graphics.
"MACtac created the market segment for thin, conformable wrap overlaminates with our Permacolor RAYZor
and now we have created the segment for metallic overlaminates," Moore said. "We’re proud of that, but it’s
just as important, if not more important, to provide our customers with new, innovative products that can make
them successful."

MACtac Introduces New Permacolor Matte RAYZor Overlaminating
Film
Making a strong statement about consumer trends in vehicle appearance, the recent 2008 North American
International Auto Show was abound with concept and road-ready vehicles sporting the hottest new paint
trend - a smooth, low-gloss finish. But, why stop at paint? Vehicle wrap professionals can now achieve the
same zero-glare effect with Permacolor® Matte RAYZor - Overlaminating Film (LF3630) from MACtac® Graphic
Products.
Originally developed for demanding military applications, Permacolor Matte RAYZor is a 1.5-mil matte cast
laminate designed for application to complex curves and corrugations. Driven by consumer trends currently
transitioning to the vehicle wrap market, the matte paint-like finish offered with this product allows wide-format
digital printers and installers to capitalize on this movement by differentiating and expanding other products
and finishing possibilities.
"The new zero-glare matte laminate gives designers endless creative options, allowing them to differentiate
from traditional vehicle, marine and fleet wraps with a true matte finish that makes graphics stand out," said
Mary Ann Kucera, MACtac Graphic Products. “That finish also returns functionality to advertising execution
since this product is much easier to view from different outdoor angles. Installers will not only benefit from its
excellent performance, but because Permacolor Matte RAYZor is an industry-leading thin overlaminate with
superior conformability that makes application easier, they will also enjoy faster application, improved
productivity and greater confidence in their work."
Permacolor Matte RAYZor offers a smooth, uniform finish that reduces friction during installation, making it
easier to apply than gloss overlaminates. The thin, 1.5-mil laminate also simplifies installation on flat, curved,
corrugated or riveted surfaces. The new product is a line extension of MACtac’s highly successful Permacolor
RAYZor family, alongside Permacolor RAZYor (LF3640), which is the highest gloss cast laminate in the graphics
industry.
For ease of use and durability (five years outdoors), Permacolor Matte RAYZor features an exceptionally
smooth polyester release liner that supports a permanent, clear acrylic adhesive with built-in UV protection,
helping graphics resist wear and color fade.
MACtac Graphics Worldwide Awards Program Winners Named
MACtac Graphic Products has announced the winners for the North American territory of the 2008 MACtac
Graphics Worldwide Awards program. MACtac, a world-leading manufacturer of self-adhesive vinyl films, hosts
the esteemed program every two years. Designed to showcase the talent, skill and creativity of printers,
designers and installers in the graphics industry, the MACtac Graphics Worldwide Awards program continues to
grow, drawing an increasing number of unique and impressive projects.
Nearly 150 entries were submitted by sign shops, printers, photographers, design studios and exhibit houses
throughout Canada, Mexico and the United States - the most entries received for this region since the program’s
inception. Submissions included high-impact visual communication projects produced in 2006 and 2007 with
MACtac self-adhesive materials, including IMAGin wide-format digital media, Permacolor overlaminates and
mounting films, MACmark marking films and MACscreen screen printing products.
Incorporating the expertise of an independent panel of judges consisting of nine industry leaders, the awards
entries were judged within four major categories - Technical Achievement, Exterior Signs, Interior Signs and
Vehicle Graphics. Judging criteria included creativity, visual impact and technical achievement, with a strong
focus on converting and application skills. One winner was named in each of the four categories and regional
first through third place winners were named within the North American territory.
North American Category Winners
Technical Achievement (3-D shapes, large-scale projects and other demanding applications)
Tiger Trash Removal Wrap, Metro Media Displays / Laird Plastics, USA
This application proved to be a huge challenge for MACtac IMAGin B-free digital media, but the vinyl came
through in the end. It took six installers 125 hours to complete due to the complex angles, curves, and many
moving parts - requiring a great deal of care and heat to conform the vinyl. In addition, because of the vehicle’s
multiple hydraulic points and its intended use, an extra gallon of silicone was needed to insure graphic protection.
Interior Signs (showrooms, trade shows, shops, museums)
This entry holds a unique element of creativity as the graphic design covers the elevator doors and proceeds
to spread onto the floor. Featuring the both doors as a full graphic of Sarah Jessica Parker peering through
broken glass at a bottle of perfume, with pieces of the broken glass on the floor, it marks a creative form of
advertising. To generate this effect, the customer printed the graphics on MACtac IMAGin JT5800 Permanent
and Removable, using JT5800P on the doors and JT5800R on the floor, both of which are designed for
solvent-based, UV-cured inkjet printing.
Exterior Signs (billboards, buildings, event signage)
Chinicuile's Restaurant Sign, Trazo, Mexico
This eye-catching, 3-dimensional sign developed to showcase the restaurant name for advertising purposes
was created with MACtac’s MACmark 8200Pro cut vinyl. The customer mounted the vinyl to canvas and then
stretched it into a tubular structure, to achieve this unique end result.
Vehicle Graphics (cars, buses, trucks, marine)
Charlotte's Web Trailer, Performance Graphics, USA
To promote the children's book Charlotte's Web, Walden Media contracted a MACtac-approved printer to
create a wrap for a traveling interactive display trailer. The outside of the trailer was designed to be a replica
of the barn as seen in the Charlotte’s Web movie, and originally, the inside was to feature learning stations.
The printer chose to use MACtac’s IMAGin B-free media and Permacolor LF3648 laminate because of the
combination’s superior print quality and warranty offered. The outside graphic was so successful, the printer
decided to carry the theme and the B-free vinyl inside as well.
MACtac Revs Up NASCAR Sponsorship with Team Rensi Motorsports
MACtac announced that it will sponsor The Team Rensi Motorsports’ No. 25 Smithfield Foods Ford Fusion,
driven by Bobby Hamilton Jr., for the entire 2008 NASCAR Nationwide Series season. MACtac has been
indirectly involved with NASCAR for many years as a provider of graphics materials, initiating a formal NASCAR
sponsorship in 2007 as a primary sponsor for a Busch Series car.
"NASCAR sponsorship offers MACtac a tremendous marketing platform for our graphics and technical products.
It was very beneficial for us to make the step from vendor to sponsor in 2007," said Rick Moore, director of
marketing, MACtac Graphic Products. "We have enjoyed building new customer relationships and continue
to achieve product success. We look forward to the new opportunities that will present themselves because
of our sponsorship with Team Rensi."
MACtac is an associate sponsor of the Smithfield Foods No. 25 car. The MACtac corporate logo will appear
on the car, as well as on the hauler, racing jerseys and all team communications. All graphics for the cars and
haulers will be printed on MACtac’s IMAGin B-free (bubble-free) digital vinyl, and protected by Permacolor
RAYZor overlaminates.
Since last year, MACtac’s products are gaining popularity among racing teams in NASCAR. "MACtac’s
presence in NASCAR has provided visibility to our vehicle wrap products and has driven demand to our
customers," Moore said. "In fact, Team Rensi was a MACtac customer before we were a sponsor. We
know they’ll be a great ‘bullhorn’ to help us reach new audiences."
The Team Rensi Motorsports No. 25 Ford Fusion is driven by Bobby Hamilton, Jr. The 30-year-old Tennessee
native brings to the track a wealth of stock car experience and passion for the sport. Team Rensi and Hamilton
finished in sixth position in the 2007 point championship. Earlier in his career, Hamilton recorded five Busch
Series wins for Team Rensi Motorsports between 2002 and 2004.
"We look forward to a very successful racing season for driver Bobby Hamilton, Jr. and for MACtac," Moore
concluded.

MACtac Supplies Label Stock for 2006 Winter Olympic
Games Stamps
New stamp exemplifies spirit of the Olympics
Stow, OH February 17, 2006 With this stamp featuring an illustration of a downhill skier, the U.S. Postal Service
continues its tradition of honoring the spirit of athleticism and international unity inspired by the Olympic Games.
The stamp was issued in Colorado Springs, Colorado, at the site of the United States Olympic Training Center
on January 11, 2006. MACtac supplied the pressure sensitive material for the 60-million stamps printed.
The 20th Olympic Winter Games, taking place Feb. 10-26, 2006, in Torino, Italy, will host more than 2,500
world-class athletes competing amid snow and ice in front of an estimated 1.5 million spectators.
In Greece, in 776 B.C., the Olympic games began as a tribute to the Olympian gods who, it was believed,
bestowed on humans the gifts of strength and fleetness of foot. The first modern summer games were held in
Athens, Greece, in 1896. Ice-skating, which could be performed on an indoor rink, debuted as part of the
summer games in 1908.
Other winter sports, such as bobsledding and skiing, required outdoor venues, so snow sports enthusiasts
gathered at a small Alpine resort in Chamomix, France, in 1924, and held the first winter games, originally called
International Sports Week. The event attracted more than 250 athletes from 16 countries. The success of the
event prompted the International Olympic Committee to officially create a Winter Olympics separate from the
Summer Olympics.
"This stamp portrays the excitement of the Winter Olympic Games,“ says Allison Hazel, product manager for
MACtac Printing Products. —The games have always brought people together in the spirit of peace and
athleticism, and MACtac is honored to play a part.“
Stamps featuring Olympic themes have been popular with collectors since the first modern Olympiad in 1896,
when Greece issued 12 Olympic-themed commemorative stamps. Beginning in 1932, numerous U.S. stamps
have honored the Olympic games held in both winter and summer. The artist for this year‘s stamp, John Matto,
captures a skier cutting into a turn. The Olympic rings appear in the upper right hand corner of the stamp, while
—2006 Olympic Winter Games“ is written along the bottom border.
As a qualified supplier for USPS stamps, MACtac has provided materials for a number of pressure sensitive
stamps, including recent releases of —Picture Book Animals,“ — Navajo Necklaces,“ —Lunar New Year,“ —Holiday
Cookies,“ —Greta Garbo,“ — Presidential Libraries,“ and —Bailemos: Let‘s Dance.“ For more information about

Blair Adams Editorial Director, Signs Canada
Blair Adams is excited to return for another round as a judge for the MACtac Worldwide Awards, and looks
forward to once again experiencing the camaraderie of the event and witnessing the quality and amazing
workmanship of a new set of awards submissions. One thing in particular he is looking forward to is an increase
in the number of submissions from Canadians. "This is a great opportunity for Canadians to be seen by a
distinguished group of peers and be recognized for the excellent work they are producing," says Blair.
While Blair began his career as a journalist covering the happenings of various industries, it was the sign industry
that eventually grabbed his attention. He attributes his fascination with signs to the dynamic nature of the industry
and its diverse applications. Six years ago, he took the position of editorial director of Signs Canada, where
he has excelled ever since. Throughout his time in the industry, he has been exposed to a variety of designs
and feels he has cultivated a good eye for what works and what does not from a design standpoint.
Nancy Bottoms Editor and Associate Publisher, Signs of the Times & Screen Printing en Español,
Conference Chair, imageWorld 2005
As the granddaughter of a printer, Nancy Bottoms brings a wealth of printing and industry knowledge back to
the judges’ panel. Since 1999, she has served as the editor and associate publisher of Signs of the Times &
Screen Printing en Español, and during that time has had the opportunity to evaluate many unique projects
and techniques from all over the globe. This year, Nancy will also serve as the conference chair at imageWorld
2005, Mexico’s largest tradeshow for the signmaking, screen printing and digital imaging industries.
Nancy formally studied psychology and conducted research in business, industrial and organizational
psychology. Informally, she has been a student of printing, interior design and screenprinting, courtesy of
various family members. She is most fascinated by the variety of techniques and steps used by signmakers in
different countries, even as the digital age continues to advance. "I love the evolution and creativity of
signmaking," Nancy says. "How people use distinctive styles and techniques in different parts of the world."
Ebbie Phillips Chairman of the Board, International Sign Association; President, CEO and Owner,
Tyson Sign Systems
Now enjoying his 34th year at Tyson Sign Systems, returning judge Ebbie Phillips brings a wealth of industry
knowledge and a historical perspective back to the judges’ panel. At Tyson Sign Systems, Ebbie has worked
in almost every aspect of the industry. During the journey to his current position as president, owner and CEO,
he worked in the estimating, engineering, purchasing, scheduling, distribution, and production departments,
among others. Through the years, he has witnessed the evolution of signage, from electric, to cut vinyl, to
digital printing, and is excited about seeing the next stage of signage evolution in this year’s applications.
Ebbie has always been active in industry associations, serving in various leadership roles. In 1991, he was
appointed chairman of the National Electric Sign Association (NESA), the predecessor of the International
Sign Association (ISA). Today, Phillips serves as the chairman of the board of the ISA possibly the only person
to ever serve as chairman of both NESA and ISA.
Wade Swormstedt Publisher/Editor, Signs of the Times
For the past 20 years, Wade has been a member of the Signs of the Times editorial staff. Along with his
editorial duties, he frequently donates his time and talents to serve on sign contest judging panels. He has
sat on the panel for the ISA annual contest, serves as a judging member in the banners category for Industrial
Fabrics Association International contests, and participated as a judge for the MACtac Worldwide Awards 2004.
Wade is excited about returning to see the excellent creativity in sign work, plus the chance to evaluate them
as a professional and as an ordinary consumer. He has dabbled in painting, sandblasting glass and angel
gilding on the creative side, but prefers to stay on the editorial side of the sign industry. His leisure time is spent
watching his son and daughter play sports, and participating in softball, golf and bowling leagues.
Mike Robertson President, Specialty Graphic Imaging Association
Back for a second stint as a judge is Mike Robertson, president of the Specialty Graphic Imaging Association
(SGIA). At SGIA, Mike’s career has had a jack-of-all-trades type feel to it. During his 20-plus years of service
to the association, he has served as executive vice president, Web architect, director of membership marketing
and development, and has worked in the design and production departments. In each capacity, Mike accrued

Nathan Franzblau President, Graphic Application Systems
Nathan Franzblau, president of Graphic Application Systems, has worked in the graphics industry since
1973. He started out as an installer working on trailer and truck fleets, as well as point-of-purchase wall and
building graphics. Eventually, he joined forces with Bill Clarke to form Graphic Application Systems in 1980.
The company delivers professional graphic installation services to companies all across the United States.
Along with six other installation companies, Nathan also helped found the Professional Decal Application
Association, Inc (PDAA, Inc). The idea behind the association was to bring a level of professional services to
what was known as a mom and pop decal installation industry. He is bringing this same professionalism to
the judges’ panel. "I will be looking at the quality of the installation, the difficulty and integrity of the work,"
says Nathan.
Eric Harsh VP and General Manager, Graphic Intelligence Agency, Inc.
Working at the Graphic Intelligence Agency (GIA) has given Eric Harsh a colorful career. The GIA, which
was acquired in 2004 by GretagMacbeth, provides comprehensive solutions for color and workflow challenges
as well as worldwide training and support to major manufacturers and end users alike. Throughout Eric’s
years in the industry he has witnessed the evolution of printers and the increasing quality of digitally printed
images.
In the MACtac Worldwide Awards 2006, Eric’s main focus during the judging process will be color and image
quality. If he had a chance to participate in a graphics application, he would like to be part of a color critical
application, such as a fine art print. His free time is spent with his wife and two-year-old daughter.
