Corel Announces Support for Production Ready Art Standards
Ottawa, Canada - October 17, 2006 - Corel Corporation (NASDAQ:CREL; TSX:CRE) is pleased to announce its
support of the new Production Ready Art Standards endorsed by the Advertising Specialty Institute (ASI). The
recently announced Production Ready Art Standards are specifically designed to ensure that professionals in
the advertising specialty industry have a common set of guidelines to simplify the acceptance and transfer of
electronic artwork for the production of advertising specialty products. The Production Ready Art Standards
committee has designated CorelDRAW® Graphics Suite as an industry-standard graphics application and
CorelDRAW (.cdr) as a preferred file format for design professionals in the growing advertising specialty market.
Designed to establish a universal process to create, store and transfer production ready artwork, the Production
Ready Art Standards include a list of approved graphics software and formats. The standards will make it easier
for suppliers and distributors to integrate new processes that enhance their business operations, improve
turnaround time for their clients, and enable them to allot more of their time to selling.
"Every design professional knows that the success of each project begins with clean, professional and
well-designed artwork. They rely on professional tools like CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X3 to ensure that their
output is flawless, every time," said Nick Davies, Corel's General Manager Graphics. "We are pleased that
ASI and its partners have established a set of standards to help ensure that professionals in the advertising
specialty industry are creating and receiving the best quality graphics possible. Choosing the right graphics
software and file formats is critical to simplifying the design-to-production process and delivering the quality
results your customers expect."
"CorelDRAW Graphics Suite is a long-time standard in the advertising specialty industry and its professional
capabilities and ease of use make it a favorite among ASI members and other design pros," said Jay Busselle,
Member of the Production Ready Art Standards Committee and General Manager of Digital Art Solutions.
"CorelDRAW Graphics Suite is ideally suited for the advertising specialty industry because it offers companies
everything they need for their graphics workflow - including vector illustration, bitmap-to-vector tracing, and a
powerful image editor - all while delivering unmatched ease of use and value. This comprehensive suite is a truly
unique offering in the professional graphics software market."
According to the Annual Industry Sales Analysis from ASI, advertisers spent a record $17.8 billion on advertising
specialties in 2005, an increase of 5.1 percent versus the prior year. ASI defines an advertising specialty to
include any item that can be imprinted with a logo or slogan and designed to promote a company, organization,
product, service, special achievement or event.
