Raster Printers Introduces Affordable, High Resolution Flatbed UV
Printer RP-720UVZ
Raster Printers, Inc. today announced RP-720UVZ, a 72 inch wide, 6 color flatbed printer, offering print
resolution of up to 800 dpi. Capable of printing at printing speeds of up to 300 sq. feet per hour, at a price of
less than $58,000, the RP-720UVZ establishes a new image quality standard for environmentally friendly UV
Flatbed printers in its class. RP-720UVZ is the higher dpi and higher speed version of RP-720UV printer
launched at SGIA 2004. Customers who purchased the RP-720UV can field upgrade their units to RP-720UVZ.
Rigid and Roll-to-Roll Printing
RP-720UVZ is a 72 inch wide production printer capable of printing on coated and uncoated rigid and roll media.
Switch over from roll to roll to rigid or vice versa, can be achieved easily providing ultimate flexibility in producing
a wide range of graphics. Resolutions range from 720X800 to 360X300 and Print speeds range from 300 ft2
billboard graphics to 100 ft2 for quality mode printing.
"Production graphics bureaus looking for a UV flatbed printer can now acquire the RP-720UVZ at an affordable
price and offer a full range of graphics products which were only available from systems costing hundreds of
thousands of dollars," said Rak Kumar, CEO of Raster Printers.
Indoor and Outdoor Graphics
RP-720UVZ is equally suitable for indoor and outdoor graphics. Printing at true 800 dpi resolution RP-720UVZ
meets the high image quality requirements of most indoor graphics. At the same time, the UV curable inks offer
excellent fade resistance for outdoor applications.
Key Technologies
Piezo Print Head Technology. RP-720UVZ uses 6 print heads of the well proven, industrial grade, Spectra print
head technology. The S Class print heads used in this printer are the most widely used production print heads
today. The printer is available with the small 30 pl SE print heads or with the 50 pl SM print heads. The small 30
pl drop can produce true 720X800 dpi images with excellent detail and the 50pl SM-128 print head can print in
720X800 dpi mode with slight loss of details but also allows high speed printing at speeds of more than 300 sq.
feet per hour in 360X300 dpi mode .
UV Curable Inks. UV curable inks are environmentally friendly and offer the flexibility of being able to print on
just about any flexible or rigid media. In general, UV systems require less maintenance and offer higher reliability
due to the fact that these inks do not dry in the printheads and at the same time offer instant drying on the
media by curing the ink with UV light.
Dual UV Lamp Curing Systems. Two separate UV lamp systems, one on each side of the print head assembly
are designed to provide consistent bi-directional printing and complete curing of the inks immediately after
printing. Power control on each lamp allows for adjusting the amount of curing energy to the printing speeds.
Media Gap Adjustment. To accommodate a wide range of flexible and rigid media thicknesses up to 1 inch,
the printer is designed with a simple mechanism to adjust the printhead carriage height. The operator loosens
a clamp and uses a simple crank handle to raise or lower the carriage. A scale shows the height of the carriage.
Once the carriage is at the right height, the clamp is tightened again and the printer is ready to print.
Simplified Head Maintenance. To maintain good print head nozzle reliability, even after extended idle time, the
printer is designed with a very effective cleaning fluid purge system. Each printhead can be individually flushed
with the cleaning fluid by simply turning a two-way valve and flipping the cleaning switch.
Optional Support for i-cut Digital Die Cutting Workflow
With the purchase of Onyx PosterShop or Onyx ProductionHouse Software and the add-on i-cut workflow module,
graphics can be automatically cut to reduce finishing labor. (Mikkelson Graphic Engineering, Inc. is the developer
of the i-cut automated digital cutting system).
Support for Wide Range of Roll and Rigid Medias
UV curable inks offer the flexibility of printing on virtually any type of uncoated roll or rigid media including
adhesive back and banner vinyls, foam-core board, polyvinyl chloride (PVC) sheet, styrene, aluminum-plastic
composite sheets and plexi glass.
