Care & Conserve Sustainability Initiative Described in New Flyer from
Alcan Composites USA
Alcan Composites USA has intensified its efforts to ensure that the company’s ecological footprints are small
and green through a new Care & Conserve™ sustainability initiative, which assesses the company’s entire
supply chain from raw materials to disposal.
Alcan Composites USA manufactures products for a wide variety of applications, including graphic display,
building cladding, furniture, home construction and transportation. The company’s brand names include:
Alucobond®, Dibond®, Fome-Cor®, Sintra®, Gator®, Gator-Ply®, Syn-Ply® and Luxcell®. Manufacturing
facilities for these products are located in Benton, Ky., Glasgow, Ky., and Statesville, N.C.
The Care & Conserve program is described in two new written pieces that may be downloaded from the company’s
web site as follows:
Care & Conserve “People + Planet: Reducing/Reusing/Recycling” Flyer – This two-page flyer provides six
important sustainability questions for customers to consider when selecting a substrate provider. A “Product Life
Cycle” diagram visually describes the importance of including best practices in sustainability throughout a
product’s life cycle, i.e., cradle to grave. This flyer can be viewed and/or downloaded from Alcan Composites’
web site at http://www.alcancompositesusa.com/CareConserve.pdf.
Care & Conserve Brochure - This four-page brochure describes Alcan Composites’ commitment to sustainability
and demonstrates the company’s commitment to reduce/reuse/recycle through both an operations perspective
and product perspective. It also describes the important role that customers can play in reducing waste and
reusing product during the project design phase.
Operations: This brochure describes several sustainability initiatives within the company’s operations, including
a program that allows customers to receive all order acknowledgements and invoices electronically, reducing
paper consumption and delivery fuel expenditures.
Products: This brochure provides minimum recycle content used in the manufacturing of each of the company’s
product lines. It also describes company supply chain directives that require all paper used to manufacture the
company’s paper-faced foam boards and its resinated paper sheets for furniture be purchased from suppliers
that participate in either the Sustainable Forestry Initiative or Forestry Stewardship Council.
Design Phase: A discussion of sustainability issues to be considered during the project design phase closes this
Care & Conserve update. Project designers can play a vital role in reducing environmental impacts by following
these tips for selecting Alcan Composites’ products.
