3M and Mondi Inncoat Enter Into a Licensing Agreement
3M, through its Commercial Graphics Division, has entered into a licensing agreement with Mondi Inncoat GmbH
granting Mondi limited rights to 3M patented technology. The licensed technology enables Mondi to structure
the surface of its release liners in specific patterns related to the manufacture of large format graphic films to
enable these graphics to be applied more easily, quickly and with fewer defects. Thus, higher quality graphics
and lower installation costs are made possible.
"We are pleased to have negotiated this agreement and establish an official license for Mondi and its customers
to use this technology," said Tom Black, marketing operations manager, 3M Commercial Graphics. "The
application benefits of this technology have changed the large format graphics industry, resulting in rapidly
increasing demand. 3M is offering limited rights to this technology to Mondi and manufacturers of pressure-
sensitive graphic films. We believe licensing this technology will accelerate growth in the industry."
"Together with its innovative extrusion coating methods," said Willi Munninger, technical director, Mondi
Coating Release, "Mondi now offers a variety of structured release liners based on this technology that enable
large format graphics manufacturers to provide high quality pressure-sensitive adhesive laminates."
