ONYX Workflow Software Achieves G7 Certification Level 1 for Press
Proofing Systems
Salt Lake City, UT - May 21, 2008 - ONYX Graphics Inc., a leader in wide format digital printing solutions, today
announced that ONYX® workflow software products can be used to produce press proof output that complies
with G7® Certification Level 1 standards. G7 is a proof-to-print process based on a set of color criteria
developed to ensure digital print technology elements - RIP, printer, media and ink - can reproduce a typical
offset lithography sheet. Certification ensures users can confidently use digital press proofs with the assurance
of matching Standard Web Offset Printing (SWOP®) criteria.
The certification was awarded to ONYX ProductionHouseTM software driving the Epson Stylus® Pro 11880
printer with Epson® Premium Luster Photo Paper 260g and Epson Ultrachrome® Ink. The certification
standards measure color reproduction through the use of International Color Consortium® (ICC) color matching
profiles for primary and secondary colors and specific grey values. The ICC profile created in ONYX Profile
Generator - a key element available only in ONYX ProductionHouse software - exceeded all testing standards
and achieved a certification category of GRACoL® Grade 1, the highest available (to view a copy of the

"This certification reinforces our proof-of-concept that ONYX Profile Generator is a high quality, extremely
accurate tool for generating ICC profiles, giving users tremendous confidence that their output will be
on-target," said Jon Reese, Director of Marketing for ONYX Graphics, Inc. "Given a similar starting point with
paper white point values and ink gamuts, it’s feasible that ONYX Profile Generator can create proof-worthy
prints using other printer hardware and inks. Users don’t have to spend thousands of dollars on a separate
color management system when the capability already exists in ONYX ProductionHouse software."
Certification was awarded to this specific combination of ONYX workflow software and Epson hardware, ink
and media. The ICC profile that earned certification can be used with any ONYX workflow software product
including ONYX ProductionHouse, ONYX PosterShop®, ONYX RIPCenterTM and ONYX GamaPrint TM
software. The ICC profile, as well as the printer driver with the profile, is available on request from ONYX
Graphics.
The G7 process specifies a simple calibration method that helps printers reliably achieve a close “visual match”
from proof to press. Consistent and accurate proofs can reduce costs, decrease turnaround times and
eliminate re-makes of a print job. Commercial printers that employ G7 certified systems can develop internal
guidelines for reliable process controls and assure print predictability before going on press. Print buyers can
be assured of proof accuracy when working with a G7 certified supplier.
