International Paper Ranks No. 1 in Forest and Paper Products
MEMPHIS, Tenn.—March 21, 2008—International Paper (NYSE: IP) today announced that it has once again been
named by FORTUNE magazine as the No. 1 company for the Forest and Paper Products sector in FORTUNE’s
annual report of “America’s Most Admired Companies.”
The survey assessed companies on eight key attributes of reputation: innovation, people management, use of
corporate assets, social responsibility, quality of management, financial soundness, long-term investment value
and quality of products and services. International Paper leads the forest and paper products industry in every
category.
Most significant, International Paper received high scores across all industries on two important measures.
Among all 317 companies in the survey, the company received the top score on social responsibility (up from
No. 8 last year) and the No. 8 score on people management. This was IP’s first time to rank in the Top 10 on
this attribute. These scores were based on each company’s rating by their respective competitors, analysts
and executives.
